Abstract ( E )- N -hexadecyl-4-(2-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)ethenyl)pyridinium bis(1,6-bis(1′-phenyl-3′-methyl-5′-pyrazolone-4′)hexanedionato- [1,5]) dysprosium (III) was synthesized. The monolayers formed on a pure water subphase (pH 5.6, 18 °C) were transferred onto hydrophilic quartz, calcium fluoride, and glass substrates successively with a transfer ratio of around unity. From second-harmonic generation (SHG) experiments, the second-order molecular hyperpolarizability β was evaluated to be about 4.8 × 10 -48 C m 3 V -2 . The results of UV-visible, IR and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of the Langmuir-Blodgett films are also reported.

THE EXTRACTION OF LANTHANIDES WITH HALOGEN SUBSTITUTED 4-ACYL-PYRAZOLONES

Huang Chunhui; Henry Freiser

ABSTRACT Equilibrium extraction behavior for a series of representative tervalent lanthanide ions, La, Pr, Eu, and Yb, using chloroform solutions containing halogenated derivatives of 4-acyl-l-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone have been studied. The results demonstrate that these lanthanides are extracted as simple chelates, LnL⊂3⊂. The equilibrium constants of these extraction reactions have been calculated. The relationships between the acid dissociation constants, K⊂a⊂, determined by a two-phase titration method, distribution constants, K⊂DR⊂, and the extraction equilibrium constants, K⊂ex⊂, discussed.

The third-order optical nonlinearity of two sandwich-type phthalocyaninato and porphyrinato europium complexes, including double- and triple-deckers (Eu[Pc(OC5H11)8]2, Eu2(Pc)(TPP)2, Pc=phthalocyanine, TPP=5, 10, 15, 20- tetraphenylporphyrinate), was investigated by using the femtosecond time-resolved optical Kerr gate method at 830 nm wavelength. Their second-order hyperpolarizability is estimated to be 0.74?10?30esu and 3.0?10?30esu respectively. This exhibits an evident enhancement in comparison with 0.47?10?30esu for one-decker Eu(Pc)(acac) (acac=acetylacetonate), which is also measured under the same conditions. The enhancement is attributed to the introduction of lanthanide metal to the large ?-conjugated system, intermacrocycle interaction and two-photon resonance etc.

Photoluminescence characterization of silicon nanoparticles hybridized europium complex

Ran Guangzhao; Bian Zuqiang; Liu Shi-Feng; Huang Chunhui; Qin Guo-Gang

A europium complex Eu (DBM)(3) TPPO (Eu tris(belizoylmethide)-(triphenylphosphine oxide)) and silicon nanoparticles have been hybridized. The hybridization can evidently change the photoluminescence (PL) characteristics of the Eu complex in the following aspects: under an excitation of 390 nm, the intensity of the PL peak at 611 nm due to the D-5(0)-F-7(2) transition of the Eu3+ ions has been increased by 30%, and the integrated PL intensity in the visible range has been increased by nearly 3 times; the PL excitation efficiency beyond 440 nm has been improved evidently; the peak in the PL excitation spectrum shifts from 408 to 388 nm, and the PL decay time decreases from 2.07 to 0.96 mus. The experimental results indicate that in the PL process, the photoexcited energy may transfer from the silicon nanoparticles to the Eu3+ ions.

MACROSCOPIC AND MICROSCOPIC STUDIES ON THE INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT ANIONS ON THE EXTRACTION OF NEODYMIUM WITH A NEUTRAL ORGANOPHOSPHINE EXTRACTANT

Huang Chunhui; Xu Rong-Fang; Xu Guangxian

ABSTRACT The determination of the thermodynamic constants for the extraction of the neodyrriium salts, Nd(NCS)3, Nd(ClO4)3 and Nd(NO3)3 with Di(l-methyl-heptyl) methyl phosphonate, and the crystal and molecular structures of the respective extracted complexes with triphenyl phosphine oxide, used as a model molecule of neutral organophosphine extractants, are reported here. The influence of the different anions on these systems has been interpreted microscopically and macroscopically. The IR data of the saturated organic phases and the solid complexes have been discussed as well.

Enthalpy determination for an extraction reaction by direct static measurement with a calvent calorimeter

Xu Rong-Fang; Zhang You-Min; Huang Chunhui; Xu Guangxian

Abstract The enthalpy determination of an extraction reaction by a direct static measurement with a Calvent calorimeter is developed. The −ΔH° value measured in this work is larger than that obtained using the temperature coefficient measurement.

SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND STRUCTURE OF [Co(DBP) 2 ·3Py] 2 ·2CHCl 3

Huang Chunhui; Zhang Delong; Xu Guangxian

The mixed ligand complex of cobalt with dibutylphosphate (HDBP) and pyridine has been synthesized. Elemental analysis yields the result that the formula of this compound is Co(DBP)_2·3Py·CHCl_3 (Py=pyridine). The thermal analsyis, visible spectra and magnetic properties of it have been studied as well. Single crystal structural analysis shows that the crystal is triclinic with space group P and the unit cell parameters are as follows: a=14.490(10), α=90.37(4)°, b=15.721(7), β=96.04(5)°, c=20.109(12), γ=105.63(4)°. The final R factor is 0.0773. Two Co atoms are connected by two bridging DBP groups to form a dinuclear molecule [Co(DBP)_2·3Py]_2 which has a C_s, symmetry. Each cell contains two dinuclear molecules and four chloroform molecules. The cobalt is coordinated in an octahedral arrangement by three oxygen atoms and three nitrogen atoms, of which one oxygen atom comes from a monodentate DBP group, two oxygen atoms from two bridging DBP groups, and the three nitrogen atoms from the three pyridine molecules.
