Mobile RFID technology for improving m-commerce

Weiping Zhu; Dong Wang; Huanye Sheng

The RFID technology is called a revolution to our life in new century. This paper introduces how to improve m-commerce utilizing mobile RFID technology. Complete and validated information could be gathered for the later m-commerce wherever and whenever you see nice products. On the way of transportation, the exception events could be detected in real-time and used to notice deliver people and control center. When receiving, the customer could check the messages in the RFID tag along with the products and verify quality of the products. The mobile RFID middleware and monitor device are also designed and implemented to support the practice application. Mobile RFID technology makes convenient to the information gathering and enhances customers confidence of m-commerce. It also improves the retailers management level, competition ability and commerce profit

Design an OSGi Extension Service for Mobile RFID Applications

Jie Wu; Dong Wang; Huanye Sheng

Mobile RFID systems are increasingly being deployed in industry and m-commerce. Due to the inherent limitations of mobile devices (PDAs, mobile phones, etc.) such as CPU speed, memory and storage capacity, special supports must be provided to utilize RFID in mobile devices. However, currently, most of organizations put their focuses on RFID middleware running on desktops or servers, while few attentions have been paid to mobile RFID middleware which allows for rapid prototyping and development of mobile RFID solutions. In this paper, we put forward a component-based, service-oriented architecture that provides developers with the possibility of constructing customized mobile RFID middleware to support different combinations of requirements. And we developed Mobile RFID service extension (MRSE), a RFID extension for OSGi platform.

ECA Rule-based RFID Data Management

Jie Wu; Dong Wang; Huanye Sheng

RFID reader networks generate an abundance of event data every day. Those data are raw streams of RFID data, and do not bear any business meaning. A challenge issue in RFID middleware is the design of an appropriate mechanism for dealing with the mass data so that logical conclusions and state of the business can be derived. The paper investigates the issues related to effective RFID data management and introduces a great way to collect complex decision-making logic and handle the mass data generated by RFID reader networks using rule engine. Event-Condition-Action (ECA) rules are adopted. In our approach, RFID middlewares reactive functionality is specified and managed within a rule base rather than being encoded in programs. The flexibility and efficiency of RFID data processing is achieved. And the modularity, maintainability and extensibility of the RFID middleware are enhanced.

Building a Context-Aware Smart Exhibition Environment

Jie Wu; Dong Wang; Huanye Sheng

The advanced deployment of wireless networks and the increasing popularity of mobile devices, in conjunction with RFID technology, are going to enhance our life style. There are some limitations exist in traditional exhibition environment: (1) mobile guide only acts as a multimedia information query device, and visitors can not get customized services to make their tours more interesting and convenient; (2) its difficult for exhibitors to get visitors suggestions and valuable visitors information to establish business relationship, and analyze which kind of people are interested in their items on display and so on; (3) in large outdoor exhibitions, bus calling service is not provided, which may cause visitors spend a long time waiting for a bus while buses move along fixed route and stop at every stop even no passenger alights in several stops. In this paper, we proposed a framework for building a context-aware smart exhibition environment. Supporting for acquiring, representing, aggregating, interpreting and accessing various contexts, this framework provides customized services to make visitors tours more convenient and interesting.

A Component-based Reconfigurable RFID Middleware

Jie Wu; Dong Wang; Huanye Sheng

RFID middleware, a bridge between RFID hardware and enterprise application systems, enables enterprise to reap the full benefits of RFID technology. Current RFID middleware is inflexible and monolithic and fails to address the emerging needs for adaptation to changing requirements. In this paper, we put forward a component-based, service-oriented RFID middleware architecture that provides developers with the possibility of constructing customized RFID middleware to support different combinations of requirements. We developed a component-based reconfigurable RFID middleware (CRRM) which is flexible, scalable, platform independent and meets the unique needs of small to medium sized enterprises - high performance with a minimum maintenance.

Public RFID service platform based on ASP model

Jie Wu; Dong Wang; Huanye Sheng

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is expected to be widely used in the future, as it can be embedded into everyday items as RFID tags. Using RFID technology, enterprises can share real-time data about products with trade partners over the Internet. Application service provider (ASP) provides services for clients in a central managing way by Internet. Users who subscribe the ASP service do not need to pay much attention about the deployment, integration, access, training, management, and support of applications, because all these are done by ASP. According to the difficulties of lacking of funds and expertise for implementing RFID and complicated RFID system construction the enterprises encountered, we focus on a solution to integrate RFID system with enterprise application system based on ASP model
