Glabellula arctica (Zett.) is recorded from three Swedish provinces as an ant guest, living in the nests of four Formica species. Some details of the behaviour of the adult and the larva are described as well as the morphology of the last larval instar, the pupa and the malc and fcmale abdomina. The systematic position of the species is discussed.

Anthophilina pallida Zetterstedt, 1838, Sapromyza unguicella Zetterstedt, 1838, Anthomyza neglecta Collin, 1944, Anthomyza dissors Collin, 1944, and Anthomyza dissors var. dorsata Collin, 1944, are revised and lectotypes designated. The valid species Anthomyza pallida (Zetterstedt), A. dissors Collin, A. dorsata Collin, A. neglectu Collin, and A. paraneglecta Elberg are briefly described and the male and female terminalia figured. Distributional and ecological data from Sweden are presented.

Characters separating the genera Platycheirus and Melanostoma are discussed. The name Melanostoma Schin. is restricted to species with a distinct type of metasternum present in the type species, M. mellinum L. Lectotypes are designated for Scaeva ambigua Fall., S. transfuga Zett., and S. dubia Zett. The two firstmentioned belong to Platycheirus and the latter to Melanostoma s. str.

Chyromya miladae n.sp. is described on material from Czechoslovakia. The new species is compared with Ch. flava (L.) and Ch. femorella (Fall.) of which details of the male genitalia are figured.

A new species, Themira biloba n. sp., closely related to Themira putris L., is described and figured on material from the shore of a small eutrophic lake in South Sweden. Comparable characters of Th. putris are also figured.

Four European species of Limnellia Malloch are recognized, one of which, L. surturi, is described as new on material from Iceland. Wings, male abdomina, and male genitalia of the four species are figured. For L. quadrata (Fall.) and L. stenhammari (Zett.) lectotypes are designated. L. surturi n.sp. is recorded as new to the British Isles and L. fallax Czerny as new to Sweden. A simplified key to the species is given.

The Scatopsidae in Zetterstedts collections have been revised. Lectotypes for the following taxa are designated: Scatopse geniculata Zett., 1850=Reichertella geniculata (Zett.); S. flavitarsis Zett., 1850=Coboldia fuscipes (Meig.); S. albitarsis Zett., 1850=Holoplagia albitarsis (Zett.) and Aspistes nigripes Zett., 1860=Anapausis nigripes (Zett.), syn: A. palustris Edwards, 1925, n.syn.

A short biography of Oscar Ringdahl (1885-1966) is given together with a complete bibliography of his zoological papers. He published 258 new specific or subspecific names and described 43 new genera or subgenera within Diptera Brachycera, especially in the families Muscidae, Anthomyiidae, Tachinidae, Scatophagidae, Syrphidae and Dolichopodidae. At present about 185 of these names are considered to be valid. A list of the taxa named by Ringdahl and their present status is given.

The types of Formicosepsis tinctipennis de Meij., 1916, and Lycosepsis metatarsata de Meij., 1924, have been studied, lectotypes are designated and redescriptions are given. The genus Lycosepsis Enderlein, 1920 is recognized as a subgenus of Formicosepsis de Meij., 1916. Within Formicosepsis s.str. two species groups are characterized, viz. the defecta-group and the tinctipennis-group. Three new species, F.(F.) defecta n.sp., F.(F) barbipes n.sp. and F.(L.) brincki n.sp., are described. Keys to recent genera of Cypselosomatidae s. str. and to subgenera and species of Formicosepsis are given. The genus Formicosepsis, with subgenera, species groups, and species, is described. The inclusion of Pseudopomyzidae in the Cypselosomatidae is discussed and questioned.

Hybomitra auripila (Meig.) and H. aterrima (Meig.) have been recorded from Scandinavia, and Tabanus aethiops Ljungh, T. lugubris Zett. and T. nigerrimus Zett. have been treated as synonyms of H. aterrima (Meig.). The present study shows that only H. auripila (Meig.) has been found in Scandinavia and that T. aethiops Ljung, T. lugubris Zett. and T. nigerrimus Zett. are synonyms of H. auripila (Meig.). Lectotypes have been designated for these three names.
