Emended diagnoses of all stages of the genus Ichthyocladius Fittkau are given. The genus appears to be a basal member of the Corynoneura group showing affinities also to the Eukiefferiella group. A number of features apparently are the result of the phoretic life on catfishes. Ichthyocladius kronichticola sp. n. and I. lilianae sp. n. are described and figured in all stages. Additional pupae from the Amazonas in Brazil and from the Parque Nacional Iguazú in Argentina are also described and figured. Keys to pupae and larvae of the genus are given.

Irisobrillia longicosta Oliver, originally described from Venezuela, is taken in Malaise traps close to small rivers in the state of Santa Catarina in south Brazil. The specimens from Brazil are small compared to the types from Venezuela, and are thus described in some detail. Irisobrillia is the only genus of the primitive Orthocladiinae close to the genus Brillia Kieffer occurring in the Neotropical region.

The genus Beardius Reiss et Sublette, 1985 is revised and twenty new species, Beardius abbadi sp. n., B. arawak sp. n., B. bizzoi sp. n., B. bucephalus sp. n., B. curticaudatus sp. n., B. dioi sp. n., B. hirtidorsum sp. n., B. krenak sp. n., B. kumadueni sp. n., B. longicaudatus sp. n., B. mileneae sp. n., B. nebularius sp. n., B. neusae sp. n., B. novoairensis sp. n., B. phoenix sp. n., B. sapiranga sp. n., B. tupinamba sp. n., B. vanessae sp. n., and B. yperoig sp. n. from Brazil and Beardius chapala sp. n. from Mexico are described and figured. Further, the female, pupa and larva of B. urupeatan Pinho, Mendes et Andersen and the female and larva of B. cristhinae Trivinho-Strixino et Siqueira are described, and new records of Brazilian species are provided. Emended diagnoses for all stages and sexes are given. The phylogeny of the genus is outlined and seven tentative species groups, the parcus group, the truncatus group, the tupinamba group, the triangulatus group, the bucephalus group, the xylophilus group, and the roquei group, are proposed. Keys to males, females, pupae and larvae are provided.

The genus Mariambera is erected based on the males of M. amazonica n. sp. from Amazonas and M. mariae n. sp. from Minas Gerais. The new genus is easily recognized by the distinctive anal point which has a rounded dorsal lobe with microtrichia and a triangular ventral lobe with very strong, marginal setae, in combination with bare eyes and wing membrane, squama with setae, antenna without strong apical seta, and apparently few, short, very weak, hair-like acrostichals in anterior 1/3 of scutum.

The genus Diplosmittia Sæther, 1981 is reviewed and four new Neotropical species are described and illustrated as males: D. plaumanni from Brazil and Venezuela, D. boraceia from Brazil, and D. aragua and D. cerayma from Venezuela. In addition, D. recisus is redescribed and recorded for the first time from Venezuela and D. harrisoni is recorded from Mexico, Venezuela, and Costa Rica. A cladistic analysis is performed corroborating the monophyly of the genus. A key to the males of Diplosmittia is provided.

Abstract The monotypic genus Corytibacladius Oliveira, Messias & Santos, 1995 is placed as a junior synonym of Limnophyes Eaton, 1875. The male of L. gercinoi (Oliveira, Messias & Santos, 1995) comb. n. is redescribed and figured and the female is described and figured for the first time.

Miambera miae n. gen., n. sp. is described and figured based on adult males from Mata Atlântica in southern Brazil. This genus can be separated from other Orthocladiinae based on the combination of hairy eyes; antenna with strong, subapical seta; decumbent acrostichals in the anterior third of scutum; bare wing and squama; R4+5 ending proximal to M3+4; anal point lacking; and tuft of strong, flattened macrotrichia on low, dorsal protuberance of tergite IX.

Djalmabatista scopulata sp. n. is described and figured as male imago, based on material collected in a light trap in Mato Grosso, Brazil. The new species groups with Djalmabatista ivanyae Fittkau, 1968 by having a projection with apical brush on the inner margin of the gonocoxite; it can be separated from D. ivanyae on the banded abdomen.

Colosmittia brasileira sp. n. from São Paulo state, Brazil, is described and illustrated based on a male imago. The genus Colosmittia Andersen & Saether was described based on a single species, C. clavata Andersen & Saether, from the West Usambara Mountains, Tanzania, East Africa. The discovery of the new species shows that Colosmittia has an Afro-Brazilian distribution pattern.

The female of Ichthyocladius kronichticola Mendes, Andersen et Saether is described and figured. The female genitalia shows characters like a large, apparently undivided gonapophysis VIII; large oval seminal capsules; and fused, fully sclerotized labia, that strengthen the placement of the genus in the Corynoneura-group of genera.
