Total synthesis of (+)-ligudentatol via Photoaddition-Fragmentation-Aromatic Annulation sequence

Nizar Haddad; Husein Salman

Abstract First synthesis of the naturally occurring compound (+)-ligudentatol is presented. It demonstrates the synthetic utility of the “Photoaddition-Fragmentation-Aromatic Annulation” sequence, recently developed via the intramolecular photocycloaddition of dihydropyrones to alkenes.

The azulene–rhodamine all optical full adder

Olga Kuznetz; Husein Salman; Naser Shakkour; Yoav Eichen; Shammai Speiser

The original suggestion made by Levine and co-workers to utilize the azulene-rhodamine bichromophoric system to constract full adder logic at the molecular scale is now implemented. Preliminary results are presented pertaining to a newly synthesized bicromophoric molecule based on this pair, in which, for the first time, an all optical full adder is implemented, utilizing two-photon nonlinear optical excitation and intramolecular electronic energy transfer between the two moieties.

Molecular and supramolecular proton-transfer processes in 2(2′-hydroxyphenyl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine and its derivatives

Husein Salman; Shai Meltzman; Shammai Speiser; Yoav Eichen

Abstract 2(2′-hydroxyphenyl)-3H-imidazo(4,5-b)pyridine, 2-HPIP, and its methylated derivatives belong to a class of molecules containing more than one set of proton donor–acceptor couples that may be coupled to one another. Consequently, 2-HPIP is found to form both π- and H-bound dimers in solutions and in the solid-state. In recent years, different 2-HPIP derivatives with various functional groups were prepared and structurally characterized. Their excited-state phototautomerization proton transfer processes in their different aggregation states were determined by studying their absorption and fluorescence spectra at different solvents at a wide range of concentrations.
