An electromagnetic pump has been designed using Load Distribution Method and Equivalent Circuit Method, and installed in a liquid metal flow system. The relation between the driving power of he electromagnetic pump and the flow rate was proposed. Also, the flow velocity and flow rate has been calculated by treating the Lorentz force as a source term in the Navier-Stokes equation. The calculation results were analyzed and compared with data from a commercial Code, FLUENT. They agreed well with each other within an error of 5%.

Analyses of flow and heat transfer characteristics and shape optimization of internally finned circular tubes have been performed for three-dimensional periodically fully developed turbulent flow and heat transfer. CFD and mathematical optimization are coupled in order to optimize the shape of heat exchanger. The design variables such as fin widths and fin height (h) are numerically optimized by minimizing the pressure loss and maximizing the heat transfer rate for limiting conditions of

An electromagnetic pump using tubular induction motor (TLIM) has been proposed to pump liquid metal fluids. TLIM has been designed for the liquid metal flow system with motor thrust force of about 40∼77 N. The flow characteristics have been investigated by solving Navier-Stokes equation. The Lorentz force effect was included simply by considering it as a constant source term in the Navier-Stokes equation. A wood-metal was chosen for the simulation of liquid metal. The effect of Lorentz force on the flow rate was investigated. Also, in order to verify the analysis results, an experiment was conducted and the experimental results were compared with those of the simulation. The simulation results showed over-estimation of about 10% compared with the experimental ones.Copyright

This paper presents the flow characteristics in the fluid circulation loop using the tubular type linear induction motor(TLIM) electromagnetic pump. A TLIM of thrust 40[N] is analyzed using the equivalent and genetic algorithm for the system The flow characteristics are analyzed by coupling the Maxwell equations with the Navier-Stokes equation with the thrust. The analysis algorithm is developed for analyzing the liquid metal flow in the system for laminar and turbulent flow. And the effect of thrust is analyzed for the flow characteristics.

This paper presents the characteristics analysis and experiment of the electromagnetic pump using linear induction motor(LIM Pump) which can transfer the molten metals by the electromagnetic force. The characteristics of LIM Pump are analysed solving the magneto-hydro-dynamic(MHD) equation at various magnetic flux. The molten zinc is used in the experiment and the results we compared with the analysis.
