The purpose of this paper is to describe the development of an algorithm for realizing web crawlers that automatically collect dynamically generated webpages from the deep web.,This study proposes and develops an algorithm to collect web information as if the web crawler gathers static webpages by managing script commands as links. The proposed web crawler actually experiments with the algorithm by collecting deep webpages.,Among the findings of this study is that if the actual crawling process provides search results as script pages, the outcome only collects the first page. However, the proposed algorithm can collect deep webpages in this case.,To use a script as a link, a human must first analyze the web document. This study uses the web browser object provided by Microsoft Visual Studio as a script launcher, so it cannot collect deep webpages if the web browser object cannot launch the script, or if the web document contains script errors.,The research results show deep webs are estimated to have 450 to 550 times more information than surface webpages, and it is difficult to collect web documents. However, this algorithm helps to enable deep web collection through script runs.,This study presents a new method to be utilized with script links instead of adopting previous keywords. The proposed algorithm is available as an ordinary URL. From the conducted experiment, analysis of scripts on individual websites is needed to employ them as links.

Water fluoridation has been cited as one of the top 10 public health achievements of the 20th century. Herein, we analyzed water fluoridation articles related to dental caries published in PubMed between 1950 and 2016 using informetrics and linguistic methods to investigate trends in the studies. To this aim, queries such as “dental caries and (water fluoridation or fluoridated water),” “dental caries and (fluoride or fluoridation),” and “dental caries” were submitted to PubMed to retrieve information about articles on water fluoridation within the area of dental caries and fluoride – their titles, abstracts, publication dates, author affiliations, and publication journals. This article information was then collected by an automatic web crawler and examined through informetrics and linguistic analyses. It was found that the number of articles concerned with water fluoridation and dental caries was 3,381 and declined over time after 1970. The articles were published by 750 journals – most notably, Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology and Caries Research. With regard to the geographic distribution of the authors, Europe and North America, especially the USA and UK, accounted for 59.9% of the articles published during the years 1987 to 2015, though there was a sharp increase in the number of authors in Oceania and Asia in recent years. In the titles and abstracts of the articles, “community” and “fluorosis” were mentioned more frequently than the other key terms selected in this study, regardless of the period examined. Our findings may allow one to assess how the research on water fluoridation has evolved over the past several decades.

A Study on the Citation Behavior by Academic Background of Researchers

Yu-Jin Oh; Hyo-Jung Oh; Chonghyuck Kim; Yong Kim

Although it has been a long subject of study why researchers prefer some cited documents to others, the existing relative researches have had a variety of perspectives on the nature and complexity of the citation behavior and not provided a complete answer to this question. In particular, Korea researchers mainly used statistical analysis of bibliographic information, which has limitations in revealing dynamic and complex cognitive aspects of the citation process. In this study, I investigate the citer perception of citing motives and bibliographic factors through survey and compared the responses according to the researchers’ characteristics. After extracting the 22 motivations and 21 factors through the literature analysis and configuring a 5-point Likert scale questions, I conducted a survey in the wat of an e-mail attachment. From the SPSS 22.0, the frequency analysis, t-test, and one-way ANOVA were performed on the 354 valid samples. As a result, it is found that supporting is considered the most important citing motive and social connection, self-citation have little influence. In the case of bibliographic factors, the journal’s reputation was recognized the most influential factor and the number of pages and authors was the least. Significant differences in fields of study and research careers were showed in some parts. These results can substantiate earlier studies, determine whether the factors assumed influential in selecting references were intended, and suggest the search point to the specialty library or academic database.
