We present a dynamic Bayesian network (DBN) model of a generalized class of nonstationary birth-death processes. The model includes birth and death rate parameters that are randomly selected from a known discrete set of values. We present an on-line algorithm to obtain optimal estimates of the parameters. We provide a simulation of real-time characterization of load traffic estimation using our DBN approach.

Modeling of photovoltaic power systems is significant to analytically predict its dynamics in practical applications. This paper presents a novel modeling algorithm of such system by using probability and statistic theories. We first establish a linear model basically composed of Fourier parameter sets for mapping the input/output variable of photovoltaic systems. The proposed model includes solar irradiation and ambient temperature of photovoltaic modules as an input vector and the inverter power output is estimated sequentially. We deal with these measurements as random variables and derive a parameter learning algorithm of the model in terms of statistics. Our learning algorithm requires computation of an expectation and joint expectation against solar irradiation and ambient temperature, which are analytically solved from the integral calculus. For testing the proposed modeling algorithm, we utilize realistic measurement data sets obtained from the Seokwang Solar power plant in Youngcheon, Korea. We demonstrate reliability and superiority of the proposed photovoltaic system model by observing error signals between a practical system output and its estimation.Modeling of photovoltaic power systems is significant to analytically predict its dynamics in practical applications. In photovoltaic(PV) generator systems, DC-DC converters are significantly considered for control system performance in power quality point of view. This paper presents a novel adaptive control method for DC-DC converters applied in PV generator systems. First, we derive a state-space average model of the converter system and then propose a reset control methodology to enhance transient response performance for time-varying PV systems. For estimating parameters of a reset control, a gradient descent optimization is utilized and an adjustment rule of them are derived respectively. An objective of the optimization is that characteristic equation of an augmented system model which is formed with an converter system model and an reset control is to trace a predefined polynomial given as a reference characteristic model. Next, we accomplish stability analysis by means of a well-known Lyapunov theory for nonlinear converter systems including time-varying voltage excitation from a PV generator. Numerical simulation demonstrates reliability of our control methodology and its superiority by comparison to a traditional control strategy.

Energy conversion systems such as power inverters and converters are basically significant in establishing photovoltaic power systems to enhance power effectiveness. This paper proposes a new converter control method by using the Lyapunov redesign approach. We construct the proposed control mechanism linearly composed of nominal control and auxiliary control laws. The former is generally designed through a well-known power electronic technology and the latter is implemented to compensate real-time control error due to uncertain natures of converter systems in practice. For realizing adaptive control capability in the proposed control mechanism, a control parameter vector is estimated by utilizing a steepest descent based optimization method. We carry out numerical simulation with Matlab(c) software to demonstrate reliability of the proposed converter control system and conduct a comparative study to prove its superiority by comparing with a generic converter control methodology.

This paper presents Kalman filter based system modeling algorithm for autonomous robot systems. State of the robot system is measured using embedded sensor systems and then carried to a host computer via ubiquitous sensor network (USN). We settle a linear state-space motion equation for unknown robot system dynamics and modify a popular Kalman filter algorithm in deriving suitable parameter estimation mechanism. To represent time-delay nature due to network media in system modeling, we construct an augmented state-space model which is mainly composed of original state and estimated parameter vectors. We conduct real-time experiment to test our proposed estimation algorithm where speed state of the constructed robot is used as system observation.

Abstract: This paper proposes a novel active noise control (ANC) approach that uses an IIR filter and neural network techniques to effectively reduce interior noise. We construct a multiple-channel IIR filter module which is a linearly augmented framework with a generic IIR model to generate a primary control signal. A three-layer perceptron neural network is employed for establishing a secondary-path model to represent air channels among noise fields. Since the IIR module and neural network are connected in series, the output of an IIR filter is transferred forward to the neural model to generate a final ANC signal. A gradient descent optimization based learning algorithm is analytically derived for the optimal selection of the ANC parameter vectors. Moreover, re-estimation of partial parameter vectors in the ANC system is proposed for online learning. Lastly, we present the results of a numerical study to test our ANC methodology with realistic interior noise measurement obtained from Korean railway trains. Keywords: active noise control, interior noise reduction, railway trains, neural network, IIR filter, secondary path modelThis paper proposes a novel active noise control (ANC) approach that uses an IIR filter and neural network techniques to effectively reduce interior noise. This paper presents a robust adaptive control method using model reference control strategy against autonomous robot systems with random friction nature. We approximate a nonlinear robot system model by means of a feedback linearization approach to derive nominal control law. We construct a Least Square (LS) based observer to estimate friction dynamics online and then represent a perturbed system model with respect to approximation error between an actual friction and its estimation. Model reference based control design is achieved to implement an auxiliary control in order for reducing control error in practice due to system perturbation. Additionally, we conduct theoretical study to demonstrate stability of the perturbed system model through Lyapunov theory. Numerical simulation is carried out for evaluating the proposed control methodology and demonstrating its superiority by comparing it to a traditional nominal control method.

This paper presents a novel control methodology for communication network based nonlinear systems with time delay nature. We construct a nominal nonlinear control law for representing a linear model and a reset control system which is aimed for corrective control strategy to compensate system error due to uncertain time delay through wireless communication network. Next, online neural control approach is proposed for overcoming nonstationary statistical nature in the network topology. Additionally, DBN (Dynamic Bayesian Network) technique is accomplished for modeling of its dynamics in terms of casuality, which is then utilized for estimating prediction of system output. We evaluate superiority and reliability of the proposed control approach through numerical simulation example in which a nonlinear inverted pendulum model is employed as a networked control system.

Crane systems are very important in industrial fields to carry heavy objects such that many investigations about control of the systems are actively conducted for enhancing its control performance. This paper presents an adaptive control approach using the model matching for a complex 3-DOF nonlinear crane system. First, the system model is linearized through feedback linearization method and then PD control is applied in the approximated model. This linear model is considered as nominal to derive corrective control law for a perturbed crane model using Lyapunov theory. This corrective control is primitively aimed to compensate real-time control deviation due to partially known perturbation. We additionally study stability analysis of the crane control system using Lyapunov perturbation theory. Evaluation of our control approach is numerically carried out through computer simulation and its superiority is demonstrated comparing with the classical control.

Captions which appear in images include information that relates to the images. In order to obtain the information carried by captions, the methods for text extraction from images have been developed. However, most existing methods can be applied to captions with fixed height of stroke`s width. We propose a method which can be applied to various caption size. Our method is based on connected components. And then the edge pixels are detected and grouped into connected components. We analyze the properties of connected components and build a neural network which discriminates connected components which include captions from ones which do not. Experimental data is collected from broadcast programs such as news, documentaries, and show programs which include various height caption. Experimental result is evaluated by two criteria : recall and precision. Recall is the ratio of the identified captions in all the captions in images and the precision is the ratio of the captions in the objects identified as captions. The experiment shows that the proposed method can efficiently extract captions various in size.
