Experience in developing a prototype for WiBro service quality management system

Dae-Woo Kim; Hyun-Min Lim; Jae-Hyoung Yoo; Sang-Ha Kim

This paper describes development of KQIs (Key Quality Indicators) and a prototype of the KQIs monitoring system for WiBro (Wireless Broadband Internet) service provided by Korea Telecom. In this paper, we analyze WiBro service model based on users perspective. Particularly, we essentially deal with the Web browsing service experienced by users as an internet service by WiBro Service. In addition, we focus on data bearer service with a wireless feature since it is the foundation of the WiBro Service. In developing the KQIs and KPIs, we use a top-down analysis method with users perspective and a bottomup analysis method to get the data sources to be measured. We categorize them to Accessibility, Retainability, Quality, Latency, Supportability, and Diagnosis as combined KQIs with users perspective. Through this service model analysis, we identify the KQIs and KPIs based on the user to manage the WiBro service quality. And we analyze the gap between the developed quality indicators and the measurement of them in KT and implement the prototype of monitoring system for them.

A Case Study on Testing and Evaluation in the KT-OSS Development

Dae-Woo Kim; Hyun-Min Lim; Sang-Kon Lee

This paper describes the test and evaluation activities for the development of the KT-OSS (Korea Telecom Operations Support System). In this paper, we show the test and evaluation phases for the development and maintenance of the KT-OSS. To ensure the successful development of the KT-OSS, we performed various tests related to functionality, efficiency and others. We also show the criteria for them and deal with the test organizations and the test-bed for managing and controlling the quality of the KT-OSS. And we describe our experiences in performing these tests. Through these test and evaluation activities, we were able to successfully develop and release the KT-OSS

Analysis of Service Transaction Flow Based on User's Actions to Develop KQIs for WiBro Service

Dae-Woo Kim; Hyun-Min Lim; Jae-Hyoung Yoo; Sang-Ha Kim

This paper describes the development of KQIs (key quality indicators) for WiBro service (wireless broadband Internet service) provided by Korea Telecom. To take a customer-focused approach to service quality, we need KQIs to measure the level of service quality based on the customer experience. Therefore, in this paper, we essentially deal with the Web browsing service experienced by users as an internet service. In addition, we focus on data bearer with a wireless feature, since it is the foundation of the WiBro service. To develop the KQIs for Web browsing service and the data bearer based on the customer, we analyze a user action scenario and service transaction flow, service delivery architecture, network entry transaction flow, handover transaction flow, and web browsing transaction flow in WiBro service. Through this service model analysis, we identify KQIs based on the user.

A Case Study on Testing Activites for KT-OSS Maintenance

Dae-Woo Kim; Hyun-Min Lim; Sang-Kon Lee

This paper describes the testing activities for the maintenance of the KT-OSS (Korea Telecom Operations Support System). Since the KT-OSS is a large software, it is essential to continuously perform maintenance activities such as the addition of new services from business departments and new functions requested by users and operators, performance improvement of existing functions, correction of the errors found during operation of the system, and so on. To ensure the successful maintenance of the KT-OSS without any effect on the existing functions and performance, we performed various tests related to functionality, efficiency and others before the added and modified parts were applied to the KT-OSS. In this paper, we show the maintenance process, the various tests related to it, the test organization, and the test environment for controlling the quality of the KT-OSS maintenance. Through these testing activities, we were able to successfully maintain the KT-OSS.

Requirements Management System for KT-OSS Maintenance

Dae-Woo Kim; Hyun-Min Lim; Sang-Kon Lee

This paper describes a requirements management system for the development and maintenance of the KT-OSS (Korea Telecom Operations Support System). In this paper, we create a simple yet appropriate requirements management system for the KT-OSS after analyzing the existing requirements handling process in the KT-OSS development, which is manually managed through documents. This is implemented through a web-based system that can be used by users anytime and anywhere to ensure the successful requirements management of the KT-OSS. This system provides us with functions that enable us to handle many of the requirements systematically and effectively. Through this system, we can clarify and ensure the accuracy of the ambiguous requirements for the KT-OSS and easily check their processing status.

Empirical testing activities for NeOSS maintenance

Dae-Woo Kim; Hyun-Min Lim; Sang-Kon Lee

This paper describes the testing activities for the maintenance of the NeOSS (New Operations Support System) of Korea Telecom. To ensure the successful maintenance of the NeOSS without any effect on the existing functions and performance, we performed various tests related to functionality, efficiency and others before the added and modified parts were applied to the NeOSS. In this paper, we show the maintenance process, the various tests related to it, the test phases, and the test environment for controlling the quality of the NeOSS maintenance.

Performing Verification and Validation for KT-OSS Development

Dae-Woo Kim; Hyun-Min Lim; Sang-Kon Lee

This paper describes verification and validation activities in KT-OSS (Korea Telecom Operations Supports System) development. In this paper, the verification and verification phases for KT-OSS development are based on the general software development lifecycle and add an additional phase to the lifecycle. To have a successful KT-OSS development, we need appropriate tests which focus on functionality, reliability, usability, efficiency in the development process of KT-OSS. This paper describes various tests performed in the KT-OSS development process and tests for maintaining the developed system according to the phases. And to control the quality for KT-OSS, we organized a testing & evaluation department which is independent from a development department. Through these testing activities, we have developed KT-OSS and released it successfully

Testing Activities for KT-OSS Development

Dae-Woo Kim; Hyun-Min Lim; Sang-Kon Lee

This paper describes the testing activities for the development of the KTOSS (Korea Telecom Operations Support System). In this paper, we show the test phases for performing the verification and validation activities for the development and maintenance of KT-OSS. They are based on the general software development lifecycle, with an operational test added to it as an additional phase. To ensure the successful development of the KT-OSS, we performed various tests related to functionality, efficiency and others. Also, the tests were performed for maintenance after the field release. We also show the criteria for them and deal with the test organizations and the test-bed for managing and controlling the quality of the KT-OSS in this paper. Through these testing activities, we were able to successfully develop and release the KT-OSS
