Touch-sensitive Alphanumeric Encrypting PIN Pad Design Based on Hamilton-connected Subgraph Recognition

I-Horng Jeng; Dwen-Ren Tsai; Hou-An Chen; Yi-Chun Yen; Chien-Kang Cheng

The encrypting PIN pad (EPP) is one common interface used to verify the authentications for such as access control management, automatic teller machine (ATM), etc. by entering personal identification number (PIN). However, the strength of the passwords composed of ten candidate digits is less than 30% of with alphanumeric inputs by additional 26 English alphabet letters. This paper proposes an alternative alphanumeric EPP solution by using touch-sensitive technology based on the theory of Hamilton-connected subgraph. The experimental result for the design shows that the one-stroke operations are feasible and the recognitions are accurate for the proposed alphabet patterns.

Performance Evaluation of Real-Time Indoor Positioning with Active-RFID and CSS-Based Nano Lock System

Allen Y. Chang; Dwen-Ren Tsai; Tsung-Chi Liu; Chun-Jung Chen; I-Horng Jeng

Various indoor positioning methods have been proposed both in theory and practice. Each method has different degree of accuracy. Due to the smaller indoor venues, the torrent for error is also smaller. Therefore, indoor positioning system requires more precise measurement than outdoor. We use active RFID and real-time nano-precision positioning devices to assess the feasibility of indoor positioning system. This study is to conduct experimental study of the distance measure using RSSI and TDOA, and analysis the experimental results.

I-Horng Jeng; Chih-Jen Lee; Yong-Rui Wang; Chien-Kang Cheng

This paper introduces the mobile apparatus must make their best tradeoffs for the innate limitations of the physical properties and will benefit from the cloud services via wireless broadband access. Then a secure information retrieval and reveal framework based on two-dimensional barcode digital signature scheme is proposed for mobile apparatus. In addition to the secure protocol with cipher retrieval and barcode reveal presented, a case study is also presented to demonstrate how the framework is feasible and applicable especially for mobile commerce.

Design and usage of touch-sensitive square-gridded keypad by using Hamilton-connected subgraph

I-Horng Jeng; Hou-An Chen; Chun-Chi Tseng; Yi-Chun Yen

The force-sensitive touch-surface with multi-functions is used much more but not including the dialer with standard 4 × 3 keypad recommended by ITU-T E.161. This paper proposes an integrated design and usage for the standard twelve-button dialer to merge another candidate interface from one application of the five-way navigation key, calculator, and media player designs into a dual-function touch-sensitive user input interface. In addition to the proposed three categories of candidate gesture patterns, there are also presented the simulation methods and results to show the patterns detectable and recognizable for further applications.

Singular Point Detection in Fingerprint Images by a Bank of Discrete Fourier Filters

Chih-Jen Lee; I-Horng Jeng; Tai-Ning Yang; Chun-Jung Chen; Peng Su

Singular point detection is a critical process for both fingerprint matching and fingerprint classification. The process of singular points detection must be fast and robust; otherwise, the performance of the whole fingerprint recognition system would be influenced heavily. In this paper, we will combine the advantages of Poincaré index and fast Fourier transform to develop a fast and robust approach for singular point detection and to avoid the time-consuming problem of Gabor transform-based approach.

Singular points detection in fingerprint images using Gabor transform

Chih-Jen Lee; I-Horng Jeng; Tai-Ning Yang; Chun-Jung Chen; Keng-Li Lin

In fingerprints, singular points, including cores and deltas, are very important features. To classify the types of fingerprints, the number and the position of cores and deltas are concerned. For fingerprint matching, some approaches used the core point to align two fingerprint images to overcome the problems from rotation and translation. Therefore, singular points detection is a critical process for both fingerprint matching and fingerprint classification. The process of singular points detection must be robust; otherwise, the performance of the whole fingerprint recognition system would be influenced heavily. In this paper, we will use Gabor transform, sampling by a complete set of Gabor basis functions, to demonstrate the phenomenon of the regions of singular points. Besides, we will develop a robust method to detect singular points.

I-Horng Jeng; Chih-Jen Lee; Tai-Ning Yang; Pi-Chih Wang

Human activity recognition should be the key technology that lets computer interact with people and bring them into an intellectual, secure and comfortable life style. In this digest, we propose an alternative method using two-dimensional distance sensors to track people, analyze their postures, and recognize their activities based on the proposed theorems and algorithms.

Coarse-to-Fine Fingerprint Matching Using Principal Gabor Basis Functions

Chih-Jen Lee; Tai-Ning Yang; I-Horng Jeng; Keng-Li Lin

In this paper, we adopt a unified viewpoint to represent local ridge orientation (LRO) and local ridge frequency (LRF) and extract important features (including cores, deltas, and minutiae) by using PGBF-based approach. Based on the continuity of ridge structures, a local fingerprint image is represented by a principal Gabor basis functions (PGBF) because PGBF only has large response values with similar LRO and LRF. Owing to the discontinuity of ridge structures, on the contrast, the positions of important points have small response values than their surroundings. Owing to the unified PGBF-based viewpoint, therefore, fewer steps are applied for important points extraction in fingerprint enrollment. To speed up the procedure of minutiae matching in fingerprint verification, besides, we propose a different procedure to directly check the positions of minutiae in gray-level fingerprint images from coarse level to fine level. So some time-consuming overall pixel-level computations are avoided, and then an efficient fingerprint matching is achieved.

Intelligent Surveillance by Using 2D Heterogeneous Multimodal Sensations and Information Transcoding

I-Horng Jeng; Tai-Ning Yang; Chih-Jen Lee; Shih-Yun Lin; Tsung-Hsien Wu

The ambient intelligence extends the territory from office building to home space for security, privacy, and whenever human needs better daily lives. Intelligent surveillance tends to simultaneously satisfy the surveillants and people under surveillance for the needs that the former want to protect the latter and the latter want to be protected. In this paper, we propose a method called 2D-heterogeneous multimodal sensation which tends to fulfill the requirement in intelligent surveillance but hiding the privacy. Then, four types of transcoding sequences are also proposed to transfer and store the sensed information.
