Results of studies of the thermoluminescence (TL) of anion-deficient alumina (α-Al2O3 − δ) single crystals and based on them TLD-500 detectors exposed to pulsed X-ray and electron radiation in a wide range of doses D, pulsed dose rates Pp, and temperatures are described. The TL responses of α-Al2O3 − δ for continuous and pulsed X-ray irradiation at D = 0.05–150 Gy are compared. Unlike continuous irradiation, in the case of pulsed irradiation at Pp ≥ 6 × 106 Gy/s, a linear increase in the TL response as a function of D is registered in the main and “chromium” peaks at 450 and 580 K, respectively, with a decrease in the slope of the dose dependence at D > 2 Gy for the peak at 450 K. It is found that high-dose irradiation (>60 Gy) leads to the formation of a new TL peak at 830 K and the preferential redistribution of the stored light sums into this peak. The dose dependence for the TL peak at 830 K is studied. It is established that it is linear in a super-high dose range of 104 to 6 × 106 Gy at Pp = 2.6 × 1011 Gy/s.

Designs of the prototypes of two dosimetry systems that are widely used in the modern international practice of the dosimetry of ionizing radiation, in one of which the ability for real-time measurements of radiation field parameters exists, are presented. The nature of optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) and radioluminescence (RL), on which the operation of the systems is based, is described. The results of tests of prototypes of OSL and RL dosimetry systems are given. Key specifications and advantages over traditional thermoluminescent systems are identified for the Korund-101-OSL OSL system prototype.

The results from studies on the correlation between thermally and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) responses and the kinetics of charge carrier phototransfer in corundum-based TLD-500 detectors are presented. It is shown that the fast component of the OSL decay curve is related to the depletion of the main trap, while the slow component is associated with the phototransfer process. The effect of preliminary heating on the behavior of OSL decay is studied.
