The half-life of the 53.2 keV level in214Bi has been measured asT1/2=0.52±0.15 ns, furtherT1/2(295.2 keV and 351.9 keV levels)≦0.10 ns was estimated. TheB(M1,2−→1−) transition rates within theπh9/2vg9/2 multiplet in210,212,214Bi are found to decrease rapidly with increasing neutron number, reaching in214Bi a value as low as those typical for intraband M1 transitions in deformed odd-odd nuclei.

Abstract In the applications of the generalized centroid shift method with germanium detectors, the energy dependence of the time centroids of prompt photopeaks (zero-time line) and of Compton background events reveal a peculiar behavior crossing each other at about 100 keV. The effect is plausibly explained as associated with the ratio of γ-quanta causing the photoeffect and Compton scattering, respectively, at the boundaries of the detector.

The γ-radiation from145Eu has been studied by means of an anti-Compton spectrometer, the construction and operation of which are described. Altogether 91 γ-transitions have been observed, 20 of them for the first time. A decay scheme of145Eu has been constructed incorporating 85 γ-transitions. Low-lying excited states in145Sm have been analysed within the quasiparticle-phonon nuclear model as well as within the interacting boson-fermion model. Some systematic features in the positions of low-lying positive parity levels inN=83 nuclei have been revealed.
