The kriging method of TEC instantaneous mapping

I. Stanislawska; G. Juchnikowski; Lj.R. Cander; L. Ciraolo; Z. Zbyszynski; A. Swiatek

Abstract The spatial variations of total electron content (TEC) over the European area for single epochs are examined using a so-called instantaneous mapping procedure applied to simultaneous data collected from a limited number of measuring stations. The method of map generation is explained involving an application of the kriging technique and construction of the associated semi-variogram. Examples of maps thereby produced are presented for magnetically quiet and disturbed days and their spatial structures are discussed in terms of the prevailing helio-geophysical conditions.

The IPS-HELGEO data base applied to the ionosphere

I. Stanislawska

Abstract The data processing and forecasting system used at the Associated Regional Warning Centre IUWDS in Warsaw is described in its application to ionospheric data /e.g. foF2/. Different choices allow user for forecasts and establishment of relations between parameters like foF2, R12, Ap and others.

Extension of EGNOS ionospheric correction coverage area

Anna Swiatek; I. Stanislawska; Zbigniew Zbyszynski; Beata Dziak-Jankowska

Ionosphere coverage is likely to be a driver for the EGNOS coverage area. Hence, a study considering a dedicated ionosphere algorithm to improve the ionosphere coverage area has been conducted. The logic of the study is the following: the accuracy of the GPS signal depends mainly on the total electron content (TEC). At two close points, TEC changes in time in a very similar way; these are region dependent variables. This correlation decreases with growing distance between the observation points and is anisotropic. Based on TEC variogram analysis, the specific algorithm has been developed. This specific algorithm is presented and discussed.
