Nonlinear electrodynamic lag of electromagnetic signals in a magnetic dipole field

V. I. Denisov; I. V. Krivchenkov; I. P. Denisova

We investigate the propagation of electromagnetic waves in the magnetic dipole and gravitational fields of a neutron star, which follows the laws of nonlinear electrodynamics in a vacuum. Electromagnetic signals in these fields are shown to propagate along different rays and at different velocities, depending on their polarization. We found the law of motion for these signals along rays. We calculate the difference between the propagation times of electromagnetic signals with different polarizations from the same source to the detector. This difference is shown to reach a measurable value of 1 μs in some cases.

A nonlinear electrodynamical shift of spectral lines in the hydrogen atom and hydrogen-like ions

V. I. Denisov; Nikolai V Kravtsov; I. V. Krivchenkov

The shift of spectral lines in the hydrogen atom and hydrogen-like ions is calculated using Born-Infeld nonlinear electrodynamics. The formulas obtained show that the position of the s levels in hydrogen-like ions and muonic atoms should be most strongly affected by the nonlinearity of electrodynamics of vacuum.

Nonlinear electromagnetic delay of electromagnetic signals in the magnetic field of a neutron star

V. I. Denisov; I. P. Denisova; I. V. Krivchenkov; P. A. Vshivtseva

Interest in the nonlinear electrodynamics of vacuum has been recently renewed [1, 2], because the sensitivity of current measuring instruments has closely approached the level that is required for detecting its effects [3, 4]. Therefore, after the first nonlinear electrodynamic experiment [5] recently carried out in Stanford, other experiments should follow in the near future that will make it possible to study the basic properties of the nonlinear interaction of electromagnetic fields in vacuum.
