Ru–Ba–Cs/Sibunit ternary catalysts were synthesized. Their activity in ammonia synthesis and the thermal stability of the support in a reducing atmosphere at elevated temperature depend on the molar ratio of the promoters. The results of studies using physical methods suggest that cesium predominantly interacts with the support, acting as an electronic promoter, whereas barium is a structural promoter. The synergistic action of the promoters at increased barium content of the catalyst was revealed. The highest activity in ammonia synthesis, 34.5 mLNH3 gcat–1 h–1, was reached for the 4% Ru–10.8% Ba–2.6% Cs/Sibunit catalyst.

Interaction of Aluminum/Cobalt Alloys with Liquid Gallium/Indium Eutectic

A. B. Arbuzov; V. A. Drozdov; M. V. Trenikhin; I. V. Muromtsev; R. R. Izmailov; T. V. Kireeva

Al/Co alloys with different element ratios were studied by X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The surface propagation of components of the Ga/In eutectic was studied in situ by energy-dispersive spectroscopy in the microscope chamber, and their propagation rate was estimated. It decreases with increasing Co content. Interaction of the Al/Co alloy with the liquid Ga/In eutectic was compared to that of the previously studied Al/Ni and Al/Fe alloys.

Effect of the composition of a mixture and the conditions of mechanical activation on the physicochemical and catalytic properties of carbide-containing catalysts

The effect of the composition of a dry mix containing molybdenum oxide, carbon, and reducing metal (Zn or Al) on the formation of molybdenum carbides during the mechanical activation (MA) of the mixture is studied. The phase composition of the mechanically activated samples is studied via X-ray phase analysis (XPA). The optimum formulation of the mixture and the MA modes ensuring a yield of highly dispersed carbide-containing catalyst with Mo2C + Al2O3 composition are determined. It is shown that the composition of the medium (air or argon) has no appreciable effect on the phase composition of the target product (molybdenum carbide). Catalytic testing of carbide-containing catalyst in the reaction of hydrodesulfurization of dibenzothiophene (DBT) is conducted, and it is established that this catalyst exhibits high activity and selectivity: at 320°C, the conversion of DBT is 92.8% and the content of cycloalkanes is 88.3%. The obtained results can be used to create an industrial zero-waste technological process for the production of molybdenum carbide.

Catalysts based on γ-Al2O3-supported sulfated zirconia for the isomerization of gasoline fractions

M. D. Smolikov; L. I. Bikmetova; D. I. Kir’yanov; E. V. Zatolokina; K. V. Kazantsev; I. V. Muromtsev; A. S. Belyi

Supported Pt/SZ/Al2O3 catalysts prepared via the thermolysis of zirconium sulfate in support pores are studied. The content of the active component (sulfated zirconia) in the catalysts is 25–30 wt %, 2–2.5 times lower than in massive catalysts equivalent in their catalytic characteristics. Tests in the isomerization of n-hexane are performed. It is shown that the total yields of 2,2- and 2,3-dimethylbutanes (DMB) on the supported catalysts at temperatures of 140–160°C are 34–36 wt % at a stable C5+ catalyzate yield of 96–98 wt %, comparable to the results obtained on industrial isomerization catalysts based on sulfated zirconia. The results indicate that the supported Pt/SZ/Al2O3 catalysts can be used in the isomerization of C5-C6 fractions to synthesize environmentally friendly high-octane gasoline components.
