Analysis and comparison of various methods available for load forecasting: An overview

Shahida Khatoon; Ibraheem; Arunesh Kr. Singh; Priti

Accurate load forecasting is essential for power system planning and operation. As the electricity end uses expand, load forecasting technique becomes more complicated. Depending on the nature of load variations, one particular method may not be suitable in each case. Before choosing a particular method, an overview of different techniques is required. This paper presents the analysis of various techniques for load forecasting. A comparative analysis is presented to understand the performance of each technique. None of them is found to be perfect alone; the trend is towards hybrid models.

Dynamic modeling and stabilization of quadrotor using PID controller

Shahida Khatoon; Mohammad Shahid; Ibraheem; Himanshu Chaudhary

Mathematical modeling and simulation of an unmanned aerial vehicle, specifically, quadrotor modeling is not an easy task because of its complex structure, nonlinear dynamics and under-actuated nature. In this paper a dynamic model of a quadrotor has been developed using MATLAB/SIMULINK software platform. The aim is to model a quadrotor vehicle as realistic as possible. The model is then used to design a PID controller structure to stabilize the roll, pitch and yaw angles of the quad rotor system. The developed systems id tested successfully for number of numerical simulation runs.

Autonomous Mobile Robot Navigation by Combining Local and Global Techniques

Shahida Khatoon; Ibraheem

present article is devoted to develop an algorithm for obstacle avoidance of an autonomous mobile robot based on fuzzy logic/ The method of navigation proposed provides a way of blending the intelligence and optimality of global methods with the reactive dynamic behavior of local ones. This is achieved by using hybrid navigation system composed of two modules, one of which uses the a- priori information and determines roughly the optimal route towards the goal, whereas the other carries out effective navigation decisions using the potential function based local approach. The fuzzy rules are constructed from intuitive and subjective human ways of collision avoidance. The results of the present study are compares favorably with those of well-established algorithms.

Feasibility analysis of solar photovoltaic array configurations under partial shading conditions

Shahida Khatoon; Ibraheem; Mohd Faisal Jalil

Operation of photovoltaic plants globally registered issues related to shading. Shading may be due neighboring construction, passing clouds, birds or birds litter will significantly reduce the power production of photovoltaic plants. In this paper feasibility analysis has been done for different array configurations under partial shading conditions. The performance of Series-Parallel(SP), Bridge-linked(BL), Honey Comb(HC) and Total Cross Tied(TCT) array configuration are analyzed and compared for 7×7 PV array under different shading conditions. The performance and characteristics (I-V and P-V) are compared with and without bypass diode; use of bypass diode in antiparallel across module or modules increases the power output but causes multiple peaks in P-V characteristics.

Analysis of solar photovoltaic array under partial shading conditions for different array configrations

Shahida Khatoon; Ibraheem; Mohd Faisal Jalil

This Paper Presents an improved analysis of solar photovoltaic module under partial shaded condition, when a solar photovoltaic array is under partial shading (non-uniform insolation) conditions than there will be large power losses in the array. Cells/modules under shade absorbs significant amount of electric power generated by cells/modules at higher illumination and convert it into heat across the shaded Cells/modules. Under partial shading conditions in the array there exist multiple peaks in power-voltage characteristics. In this paper we have used MATLAB/SIMULINK software, firstly modeling is done for PV module which is further modified to get PV array model. The array current-voltage and power-voltage characteristic is verified from experimentally available characteristics. Analysis has been done for modules connected in series and parallel under partial shading condition. Demerits of series connections under partial shading condition are inferred. The comparison has been made for series and parallel connected solar photovoltaic modules.

Advances of Broadband Power Line Communication and its application

Mukesh Kumar Varma; Zainul Abdin Jaffery; Ibraheem

Broadband Power Line Communication (BPLC) technology, offers a convenient, efficient and reliable medium for high frequency-data transfer for broadband access, by creating networks within existing infrastructure. As the powerline network is very noisy, complex and varying from place to place, it is very difficult to model the channel. For creating a new efficient power line communication model of the channel, it is necessary to know the characteristic, topology of the low voltage powerline. A review analysis has been given on advances, issues and applications of broadband power line communication in various fields. With this paper, we also offer a low voltage power line channel transfer function with small sets of parameters, by means of a simulation tool in the bandwidth 1-30 MHz The observations presented in the paper are important and useful for an efficient channel design of a BPLC system.

A novel approach based on choquet fuzzy integral controller for line of sight stabilization application

Ravindra Singh; M. Hanumandlu; Shahida Khatoon; Ibraheem

The performance of an electro-optical fire control system (EOFCS), mounted on a mobile platform, decreases exponentially with increase in the disturbance on the line of sight (LOS).To overcome this problem, LOS stabilization control based on gyro stabilized platform is required to isolate the LOS from the movement and vibration of carrier and ensure pointing, tracking and firing for target in EOFCS. Fuzzy-knowledge-based-controller (FKBC) design presents a good methodology to stabilize the line of sight against disturbances and nonlinearities present in the system, but tuning of input and output membership function parameters is quite a complex process. To overcome this, a choquet fuzzy integral based control algorithm is developed for this servo system with nonlinear property and some uncertainties. In this approach, q-measure is estimated to simplify the computation of λ-measure that aggregates the information from the weighted inputs. The output of fuzzy rules which are formulated by defining their consequent as the product of weighted input and a fuzzy measure is computed in the form of Choquet fuzzy integral. The performance of time response parameters and residual jitter on LOS obtained by choquet fuzzy control is presented here.

GSM Based Power Management

Kaukab Naz; Shahida Khatoon; Ibraheem

At present, secondary distribution network is controlled manually in most of the places. The limitation of the system is that there is no feedback on the operation. Maintenance staff has to physically check the correct operation. The system has an isolator / changeover switch at the incomer end and a contactor for switching the power. There are no protections against overloads and short circuit faults. There is no metering facility in the system and the revenue calculations are done manually. In this paper a control system is designed for remote operation of LV feeders for continuous monitoring and load shedding with GSM interface with central control station SCADA with two way communication using SMS messages. In this paper a prototype model is developed by integrating SCADA control with GSM technology using the logic Twidosoft v.3 for continuous monitoring and obtaining parameters from the field and remote control of LV feeders. The proposed scheme is intended to give better and more control options, performance, safety to equipment & people and help in reducing downtime by way of suggesting preventive maintenance automatically by the system. Offered system includes the metering functions, so that the meter readings can be downloaded from remote Central Control Station using the same GSM Modem and GSM Network. Automatic re-switching by remote control to enable supplies to be restored quickly to all consumers is a current feature of this scheme. In this project various hardware equipments are configured using IFIX software. Many screens are created for sending and receiving reports. A program is written in MATLAB Editor for determining the channel capacity of GSM network and then the optimum message transfer rate is calculated for this type of application. The scheme has been successfully tested and the analytical discussions and results are presented for the same.
