Ida Aryanie Bahrudin; Rafizah Mohd Hanifa; Mohd Ezree Abdullah; Muhammad Firdaus Kamarudin

eXtreme Programming (XP) is one of new discipline of software development methodology on values of simplicity, communication, feedback and also courage. XP is an explorative and agile development method that seeks to satisfy the customer through early and continuous delivery of valuable software. XP software development process starts with planning, and all iterations consist of four basic phases in its life cycle: designing, coding, testing, and listening. This paper tends to report the experience in adapting XP in developing electronic document online system for the use of Centre for Diploma Studies, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (eDoc). The project under study is a system that is use to store office documents such as letter in an online database. The objective of this paper is to discuss the XP practices that had been choosed and also the lesson learnt by practising XP in developing eDoc.

Most people agreed that Google Maps set the standard for ease of use when it comes to a free online web mapping services. In addition, different map views are available which user can choose from the options of a terrain view, normal map view, or satellite image view based on their needs. Embedding a Google Maps on a website will not only make it more user-friendly but also enable people to access certain location with more ease. This paper intends to introduce the use of this geoinformatics services from Google along with Grails services in creating a simple interactive map for highway construction sites. A discussion will cover up the use of programming interface provided by Google and Grails (open source web application framework) and also the advantages of embedding the map to the website.

Graphite has attracted both academia and researchers due to its outstanding properties such as having strength 200 times stronger than steel, great efficiency of heat and electricity conduction, low cost and also facile fabrication. In this study, two facile approaches of producing nanosize graphite were performed; thermal expansion and sonication. Graphite that was produced are used as reinforcement in epoxy composite for adhesive applications. In order to determine the mechanical properties of the composite, tensile test was performed using Dumbbell shape of sample. The outcome of the test shows that 1 wt% of expanded graphite produce the highest value of Young Modulus which is 18 MPa. It was also found that adding more expanded graphite increased the ductility of composite by lowering epoxy brittleness. As for adhesive testing, double cantilever beam was used using Universal Testing Machine where the result shows that 1 wt% of expanded graphite demonstrates the highest value of adhesive toughness which is 9398 J/m2. The result of porosity-density indicates that porosity of composites will affect the mechanical properties. From the overall results, it is conclude that smaller weight percentage of expanded graphite produces better composite while for sonication process shows no difference at all. Thus demonstrates that time of dispersion does not give significant effect on the maximum load and stress of the composites.

The advancement of information and communication technology (ICT) has changed the structure and functions of various sectors and it has also started to play a significant role in modern manufacturing in terms of computerized machining and cloud manufacturing. It is important for industries to keep up with the current trend of ICT for them to be able survive and be competitive. Cloud manufacturing is an approach that wanted to realize a real-world manufacturing processes that will apply the basic concept from the field of Cloud computing to the manufacturing domain called Cloud-based manufacturing (CBM) or cloud manufacturing (CM). Cloud manufacturing has been recognized as a new paradigm for manufacturing businesses. In cloud manufacturing, manufacturing companies need to support flexible and scalable business processes in the shop floor as well as the software itself. This paper provides an insight or overview on the implementation of cloud manufacturing in the modern manufacturing processes and at the same times analyses the requirements needed regarding process enactment for Cloud manufacturing and at the same time proposing a STEP-NC concept that can function as a tool to support the cloud manufacturing concept.

ISO 14649 standard, commonly recognized as STEP-NC is a data model interface for computer numerical controllers. STEP-NC goes much further that G codes and has a more comprehensive data model that overcomes the lack of process information in ISO 6983 files (G codes programming). The STEP compliant approach brings the possibility to integrate the machine controller to the overall enterprise information network, with the intention of having bi-directional data flow. This will provide the novel capability for upstream feedback of information from the numerical controller to the design and process areas in the process planning and manufacturing. This paper presents the key concepts of the proposed STEP Convertor of the STEP-CNC Mapping System. The objective of the main system is to take a generic STEP file as the input to drive a CNC machine tool. The main system is broken down into two main sub-systems, STEP Convertor and STEP-NC Translator. This paper will focus solely on the information structure and conceptualization of the STEP Convertor.

Challenges of Gathering User Requirement in eXtreme Programming Project: A Case Study of Highway Construction Monitoring System

Ida Aryanie Bahrudin; Mohd Ezree Abdullah; Rafizah Mohd Hanifa; Noordiana Kassim; Rosfuzah Roslan

The successfulness of a software development project is not only based on the tools and the technology used but also really depends on how the developed software meets the end user requirements. Involving end user as an active member of software development team, one of the popular agile methods known as eXtreme Programming (XP) had been selected as the software development methodology. This paper is focused on one of the main practices called on-site customer. The project under study is a web based Highway Construction Monitoring System (HIGHCONS). Challenges related to its implementation throughout the development process and also the suitable solutions in facing the challenges were also considered.
