Modelling of an Anaerobic Process producing Biogas from Winery Wastes

Significant instability is often exhibited by anaerobic digesters: this problem may be avoided through appropriate control strategies. Such strategies require, usually, the development of suitable mathematical models, which adequately describe the main processes that take place.In this paper, a simple process design model is proposed, which describes an industrial plant producing biogas by anaerobic digestion of winery wastes. The required kinetic parameters have been obtained from preliminary laboratory tests. The results of the simulation have been applied to the evaluation of the viable energy use of winery wastes (exhausted grape marc) produced by a distillery of Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

Kinetic models for the leaching with sulphuric acid of zinc-containing slags

Abstract A kinetic model has been obtained for the selective dissolution of the glassy matrix with dilute sulphuric acid at 70–100°C to liberate the zinc-rich phase obtained by reheating Imperial Smelting Process slags at above 900°C. Data were analyzed according to the “shrinking core models” Kt = 1 − (1 − a) 1 3 for chemical control, Kt = 1 − (2 3) a −, (1 − a) 2 3 for diffusion through a solid matrix. The kinetic mechanism can be divided into two stages. The first is chemically controlled, the second diffusion controlled. Experimental data showed a good fit with the proposed equations.
