Production of C2-symmetrical phenazines by some actinomycetes

Abstract The C 2 -symmetrical phenazines produced by Microbispora and Streptosporangium were identified as 1,6-phenazinediol-5,10-di- N -oxide (φ d -dioxide) and 1,6-phenazinediol (φ-diol). Both oxidation of φ-diol to φ d -dioxide and reduction of φ d -dioxide to φ-diol were detected with M. amethystogenes and M. parva . No albino mutants lacking φ-diol-oxidation ability were isolated from cultures of Microbispora incubated in the presence of acridine orange, or those incubated at sublethal temperatures.

Organic Acid Production by Unicellular Green Algae during the Heterotrophic Growth

(1) 自然界より分離した単細胞緑藻類を中心に他養培養における有機酸生成力の強い藻株を検索しChlorella vulgaris Al-40を得た. (2) 生成有機酸は同定の結果,ギ酸,コハク酸,乳酸,ピルビン酸であった. (3) Chlorella vulgarisAl-40は炭素源としてグルコース,窒素源としてポリペプトンを含む基本培地でよく有機酸を生成し, a) 静置条件下では主として乳酸を生成し,コハク酸,ピルビン酸を副生した. b) 好気条件下では主としてピルビン酸を生成し,コバク酸,乳酸がわずかであった. c) 揮発性酸としては,いずれの条件下でもギ酸のみを生成した. (4) 自養培養においては,ほとんど酸を生成しなかった. (5) Scenedesmus basilensisIAM C-66においても有機酸の生成が認められ,生成量がChlorella vulgaris-Al-40に比べて少ない以外はすべて同じ結果を示した. (6) Chlamydomonas sp.の有機酸生成は微弱であった.
