Stevan Stankovski; Milovan Lazarevic; Gordana Ostojic; Ilija Cosic; Radenko Puric

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a new way for identification of products/parts and their tracking during the whole life cycle, from the manufacture and assembly phase to the disassembly phase.Design/methodology/approach – Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is applied on a chosen product, an in‐mould labelling (IML) robot.Findings – This paper discusses a case study that highlights the use of RFID as automatic identification technology, especially in the processes of assembly/disassembly of the IML robot. The application can be expanded onto any kind of product, with the exception of some life cycle phases that are specific for a particular product.Practical implications – The paper gives an example of how RFID technology can actually be realized in the case of the IML robot to improve the quality of tracking its main components.Originality/value – The users have the possibilities to access and analyze information about the products/parts during their cycle.

Researching indicators of organizational intellectual capital in Serbia

Sladjana Cabrilo; Zorica Uzelac; Ilija Cosic

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide an appropriate model for IC reporting in the transitional economic system of Serbia.Design/methodology/approach – The existing methods of IC reporting as well as the actual needs of organizations in Serbia related to measuring IC (i.e. key influencing factors of IC) and their unique features represent the fundamentals of an adequate model for IC reporting.Findings – A group of selected IC indicators in Serbia differs from typical relevant indicators mainly due to the specifics of the environment. Preliminary investigation of organizational IC in Serbia was carried out and a number of initiatives for improvement and development of the existing IC have been suggested.Research limitations/implications – An implementation of the proposed model is limited to the observed environment. The suggested group of indicators should be viewed more as a basis for a general application of IC reporting and management in Serbia, rather than an absolutely accurate model for ...

A Comprehensive Method for Industrial Site Selection: The Macro-Location Analysis

Aleksandar Rikalovic; Ilija Cosic; Ruggero Donida Labati; Vincenzo Piuri

Industrial site selection is a strategic decision that involves several criteria with consideration for technical, economic, social, environmental, and political issues. These criteria are generally described using a number of different indicators, expressed in quantitative and qualitative ways with some possible uncertainty. Decision making requires, therefore, appropriate tools to enable data collection, storage, analysis, fusion, and knowledge management to address this complex multifaceted scenario. This paper presents a comprehensive method for industrial site selection, an innovative approach for reasoning uncertainty and efficiently finding the most suitable solution based on a set of interacting decision support systems. Experimental results show that the proposed approach provides accurate results in the region of interest, coinciding with the choices of expert analysts.

Collaborative Design in The Assembly Systems

Gordana Ostojic; Vukica M. Jovanovic; Branislav Stevanov; Stevan Stankovski; Ilija Cosic

Today companies are specialized for partial technology processes. Hundreds, sometimes even thousands of collaborative processes depend on workers interaction and communication in product assembly and disassembly phase. With intensive coordination during all manufacturing phases of designing of one product and technology documentation are produced, in digital form, on CAx workstation. Product Lifecycle Management can be achieved by using specialized software solutions. Some of the Product Lifecycle Management solutions offer integrated portfolio for engineering design and production of products and services, which enables companies to create their own digital ebusiness projects. In this paper it will be given a representation of the contemporaneously solutions for collaborative design and the example of using solutions in the industry.

The Impact of Globalization on the Insurance and Reinsurance Market of Eastern Europe

Goran B. Anđelić; Ilija Cosic; Vladimir Đaković

The Impact of Globalization on the Insurance and Reinsurance Market of Eastern Europe The analysis of the influence of globalization on the insurance and reinsurance markets of Eastern Europe confirms its significant importance in directing it towards steady increase, reflecting global trends. Special attention in this paper has been dedicated to the new thriving market in the insurance and reinsurance business as a basic indicator of market globalization with special attention to Eastern Europe. Namely, the business environment in Eastern Europe is especially dynamic and complex regarding the phase of altering its social-economic system. The research in this paper covers analysis of insurance and reinsurance markets of Eastern Europe with special attention on this market in the Republic of Slovenia, the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Serbia from 2000 to 2008. The subject of this research is an overview and analysis of the reflexive relationship between the insurance and reinsurance markets of Eastern Europe and the globalization processes on both micro and macro levels. The main goal of the research is to obtain specific results about the intensity and direction of the influence of globalization processes on the course and direction of development of the insurance and reinsurance markets of Eastern Europe on the one hand, and changes in the insurance and reinsurance markets of Eastern Europe on globalization processes on the other. The basic hypothesis of this research is that there is a distinctive and strong reflexive relationship between the globalization processes and the conditions and state of the insurance and reinsurance markets of Eastern Europe. The applied methodology during the research includes analyses and synthesis methods. The research results undoubtedly confirm the significance of the relationship between globalization trends and changes in the insurance and reinsurance markets of Eastern Europe, hence providing a found and background for further research in this area.

Intelligent Decision Support System for Industrial Site Classification: A GIS-Based Hierarchical Neuro-Fuzzy Approach

Aleksandar Rikalovic; Ilija Cosic; Ruggero Donida Labati; Vincenzo Piuri

Industrial site selection involves a large number of criteria and location alternatives; consequently, the selection process leads to extended decision-making periods and requires complex knowledge management, classification, and analysis skills. The selection criteria are generally described by a number of different features expressed as both quantitative and qualitative measures that can involve some uncertainty. Moreover, the goals considered in the selection process are frequently nonlinearly related to the criteria; thus, they give rise to an optimization problem that is nonlinear with respect to each goal. Consequently, decision making requires appropriate support to enable efficient data optimization and classification under uncertainty before the final selection of an industrial site is made. This paper presents a novel intelligent decision support system for classifying industrial sites according to quality criteria estimated by exploiting a geographic information system, expert knowledge, and machine learning techniques. The proposed system is based on a geographic information system for generating location alternatives and a hierarchical neuro-fuzzy approach for site classification. The neuro-fuzzy method is based on a knowledge base designed by experts in the field and uses a neural approach to tune the parameters of the membership functions. Experimental results on real-world problems show that the proposed system provides accurate results for industrial site classification at the local level (micro locations).

Estimation of production costs in the product development phase, has a significant impact on achieving and maintaining the competitiveness of products on the market and the target profit, as the primary goal of production. Evaluation of individual variants conceptual and preliminary structural solutions and new product selection of a solution that has the least cost of production, the drive is controlled target costs, and target profit. This paper presents an application of fuzzy-neural network to estimate the costs of production in the product development phase to the case of single row cylindrical roller bearings.
