Ahmed Ibrahim Alzahrani; Imran Mahmud; T. Ramayah; Osama Alfarraj; Nasser Alalwan

As the world moves into the web 2.0 era, everyone can connect virtually, and online game playing has become a trend. Online games are played over computer networks, usually over the Internet. Online games entail a number of advantages, such as the ability to connect to multiplayer games, although single-player online games are also rather popular. This exploratory study focused on modeling the determinants of actual use of online game playing. Many researchers have shown perceived enjoyment and flow experience as important drivers of actual use of online game playing. The theory of planned behavior has been used in this study. Data were collected from 1584 Universiti Sains Malaysia students with different backgrounds using a structured questionnaire. The findings show that perceived enjoyment has the strongest influence on actual use. Other variables found to influence actual usage include the level of perceived behavioral control, subjective norms, attitude, perceived enjoyment, and flow experience. Implications of this research for future researchers will also be discussed. We hope this research will increase researchers’ interest in further development in this sector and that the model will assist the games industry to identify factors that increase actual use by players.

To use or not to use: Modelling end user grumbling as user resistance in pre-implementation stage of enterprise resource planning system

Imran Mahmud; T. Ramayah; Sherah Kurnia

This study extends status-quo bias theory by integrating technostress.Survey was conducted on 221 users in pre-implementation phase of SAP ERP system.Significant impact of status quo bias observed on end user grumbling.Technology induced stressors are strong predictors of end user grumbling.End-user grumbling influences symbolic adoption significantly. The success rate of enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation is less than 49% around the world owing to its complex nature. The key focus of information system (IS) researchers has been to explore the ways to reduce threats to ERP implementation posed especially by user resistance. Although the reasons for user resistance have already been dealt with in previous studies, our understanding of how users assess a new ERP system in the pre-implementation phase and what prompts their decision to resist it is far from complete. In particular, an explanation for user resistance or end-user grumbling from the perspectives of status quo bias and technostress was found to be missing. In order to fill this gap in research, the model proposed in the present study integrates status quo and technostress, thus throwing light on the end-user grumbling behaviour that precedes the implementation of a new ERP system. Data was collected via a survey questionnaire distributed to 221 respondents from five different manufacturing industries in Bangladesh which are currently in the process of installing the popular SAP ERP system. Results of this tested model indicate a significant impact of the constructs of status quo bias and technostress on end-user grumbling. Additionally, end user grumbling has positive significant impact on symbolic adoption. Moreover, the paper discusses common method bias and the limitations of the study, while providing an outlook for future research.

Modelling digital library success using the DeLone and McLean information system success model

Ahmed Ibrahim Alzahrani; Imran Mahmud; T. Ramayah; Osama Alfarraj; Nasser Alalwan

This is an exploratory study to model the determinants of actual use of a digital library system. To do so, a research model was developed using Delone and McLean’s information system success model and explained as an empirical study. Data were collected from 978 respondents using a structured questionnaire from four different universities of Malaysia. The findings showed that the quality factors of digital library systems have a strong influence on satisfaction, behavioral intention, and variance in actual use. Information quality is the strongest predictor to measure user satisfaction, and satisfaction has a strong effect on students’ behavioral intention to use the system. In addition, user satisfaction and behavioral intention to use the system also have a strong positive relationship with the actual use of a digital library system. In brief, behavioral intentions are greatly influenced by system quality, information quality and service quality.

Influence of cognitive style on mobile payment system adoption: An extended technology acceptance model

Rifat Hossain; Imran Mahmud

The aim of this study is to investigate the factors that affect consumer mobile payment system adoption in the context of Bangladesh. To do so, we integrated technology acceptance model and cognitive style theory. We surveyed 75 students who recently became aware of college admission through the mobile payment system using survey questionnaire. The result indicates that cognitive style was not found significantly related to perceived usefulness, but significantly related to perceived ease of use, overall within the TAM model apart from the relation between perceived ease of use and attitude towards usage, the rest relationships were significant.

Usability of Enterprise Resource Planning software systems an evaluative analysis of the use of SAP in the textile industry in Bangladesh

Wai-Peng Wong; Vito Veneziano; Imran Mahmud

Information technology (IT) is increasingly playing a crucial role in managing business processes across all industries and organizations but business managers and analysts seem to underestimate the impact of usability of IT solutions on processes and people. This paper focuses on the usability of one of the most popular business process management software systems, SAP, which comes as an integrated solution that incorporates the key business functions and processes of an organization. The paper critically analyzes related issues and implications using the System Usability Scale (SUS) and semi-structured interviews. Several considerations and suggestions are drawn in terms of rethinking and pursuing usability in training when applied to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and other systems supporting business process management.

Mohamed Emran Hossain; Touhid Bhuiyan; Imran Mahmud; T. Ramayah; Brenda Scholtz

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of absorptive capacity and the quality dimensions of technology on students’ continuance intention to use the e-library system. To measure the continuance intention, an integrated research model was developed using expectation-confirmation theory (ECT) and absorptive capacity theory. This empirical study was undertaken at a university in Bangladesh with a sample size of 297. Data was collected via a survey questionnaire. The results reveal that the dimensions of absorptive capacity have a strong effect on confirmation of the system and a partial impact on perceived usefulness (PU). Confirmation of the system has a significant effect on the PU of and satisfaction with the system. Satisfaction was found to be a strong predictor for the continuance intention to use the e-library. Finally, ECT fully fits in this context and students’ satisfaction has the largest effect on the continuance intention.

Efficiency of SMS Marketing in Developing Countries: Bangladesh Case Study

Imran Mahmud; Rawshon; Fazle Munim

SMS - Short Message service is commonly used by the all mobile users in the world. This service is now one of the best media for promotion of the product and services. This paper focused on the best use of the SMS to make the best promotion in anytime and anywhere to the customer. In traditional marketing, there are electronic and paper media to make the advertisement and the latest news of the product. But in that case, those media are more expensive and some time is avoided by the customer. On the other hand, SMS marketing is a way where using lower cost, it can provide new messages of product or about the company. In this paper, a research has been taken place to measure the efficiency of SMS marketing in Bangladesh.
