Torsion of vermiform appendix with fecalith: a case report

IntroductionTorsion of the vermiform appendix is a rare disorder, which causes abdominal symptoms indistinguishable from acute appendicitis and is found by chance during the laparotomy.Case presentationWe report a case (a 76-year-old male) suffering of torsion of the vermiform appendix with fecalith. It was twisted 540 degrees in an anti-clockwise direction. Appendectomy was done.ConclusionAppendiceal torsion may be assocated with the presence of fecalith. This case is the oldest one among the patients with appendiceal torsion reported to literature.

L-sign in appendicitis: a case series

IntroductionClinical signs have been always of significant value in the diagnosis of appendicitis. Specific clinical signs are elicited coupled with routine laboratory and radiological investigations in making the diagnosis of acute appendicitis. L-sign in appendicitis is similar to the well known Rovsings sign and is based on the same principle but is elicited on right side on the lateral abdominal wall.Case presentationA case series of 3 patients is presented here who had the L-sign in acute appendicitis. All had Rovsings sign positive and the histopathological evidence of appendicitis.ConclusionL-sign in appendicitis is similar to the Rovsings sign in diagnosis of appendicitis but elicited on right side.
