Memory effect of ZnO nanocrystals embedded in an insulating polyimide layer

Jong-Wook Jung; J. Y. Jin; In Hong Lee; T. W. Kim; H. G. Roh; Young-Ki Kim

The memory effects of ZnO nanoparticles embedded in a polyimide (PI) matrix were investigated. Transmission electron microscopy images and selected area electron diffraction patterns showed that ZnO nanocrystals were created inside the PI layer. Capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements on Al/PI/nanocrystalline ZnO∕PI∕p-Si structures at 300K showed a metal-insulator-semiconductor behavior with a flatband voltage shift due to the existence of the ZnO nanocrystals, indicative of trapping, storing, and emission in the electrons in the ZnO nanocrystals. Possible electronic structures corresponding to the writing and erasing operations for the Al/PI/nanocrystalline ZnO∕PI∕p-Si device are described on the basis of the C-V results.

We report a 25-year-old Korean woman with Adult onset Still’s disease (AOSD) presented with renal amyloidosis, which had developed four years after disease onset. We successfully treated her with prednisolone, colchicine and cyclophosphamide. A review of the literature uncovered about 10 cases, most of which were treated by various regimens that resulted in poor outcomes. Renal amyloidosis should be suspected in patients with AOSD who have unexplained proteinuria. Although the mechanism of renal amyloid deposition is not well known, earlier histopathologic diagnosis and choice of regimen may affect prognosis.

A Case of Parasymphyseal and Associated Insufficiency Fractures of Pubic Rami in a Patient with Mixed Connective Tissue Disease

Ja Hun Jung; Jun Jb; Seung Cheol Shim; Tae-Hwan Kim; Sung Soo Jung; In Hong Lee; Sang-Cheol Bae; Dae Hyun Yoo; Kyung Bin Joo; Seong Yoon Kim

Parasymphyseal insufficiency fractures are uncommon. Furthermore, none have been reported in systemic rheumatic diseases other than rheumatoid arthritis. In this article we report on parasymphyseal insufficiency fractures in a patient with mixed connective tissue disease.

Formation mechanisms of self-assembled ZnSe nanostructures on Cl-doped ZnSe thin films grown on (100) GaAs substrates

Jungwoo Shin; J. Y. Lee; Joon-sig Jung; In Hong Lee; T. W. Kim; Hyun-Taek Lee; M.D. Kim

Bright-field transmission electron microscopy images, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy images, energy dispersive spectroscopy profiles, and high-resolution x-ray diffraction curves showed that a high density of ZnSe nanostructures with a small size was formed on the Cl-doped ZnSe thin films grown on GaAs substrates. The formation of the ZnSe nanostructures was attributed to the strain energy resulting from the existence of the compressive strain generated by the accumulation of Cl impurities on the surface of the ZnSe thin film and from the residual strain existing in the ZnSe thin film with a thin thickness.

Injectable gold-induced hepatitis and neutropenia in rheumatoid arthritis.

Wan Sik Uhm; Dae Hyun Yoo; Ji Hyun Lee; Tae-Hwan Kim; Jae-Bum Jun; In Hong Lee; Sang-Cheol Bae; Seong Yoon Kim

Gold salts have been used for many years in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. The common side effects are mucocutaneous reactions, but hepatotoxic reaction and isolated neutropenia are rare complications. We report a 62-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis who had developed hepatitis and neutropenia simultaneously after receiving 137.5 mg of sodium aurothiomalate.
