Decision Model for the Use of the Application for Knowledge Transfer Support in Manufacturing Enterprises

Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska; Irene Krebs

This article elaborates a decision-making model for the effective use of the application for knowledge transfer support in manufacturing enterprises by using the GMDH method. It focuses on the set of the characteristics of knowledge workers in manufacturing companies and is based on a survey and data obtained from 119 Polish manufacturing enterprises. This article develops a framework of how knowledge workers can determinate the knowledge transfer in a manufacturing company and further discusses the research results.

A Model of the Tacit Knowledge Transfer Support Tool: CKnow-Board

Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska; Irene Krebs

This article elaborates on the development of a dedicated Tacit Knowledge Transfer Support Tool for companies. The five main components of this tool are formulated: (1) Tacit Knowledge Source Identification; (2) Tacit Knowledge Source Determination using the FAHP (Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process); (3) Tacit Knowledge Acquisition, (4) Tacit Knowledge Transformation, (5) A Tacit Knowledge Transfer Board. The proposed tool enables the identification of tacit knowledge in a company and the transformation of different types of knowledge into the form of explicit knowledge included in the Tacit Knowledge Transfer Board.

Knowledge Management Issues For Maintenance of Automated Production Systems

Jacek Reiner; Jan Koch; Irene Krebs; Stefan Schnabel; Thomas Siech

Today’s maintenance approach is functional oriented and mostly it is understood as hardware preventative actions. The changing share of mechanics, electronics and software cost of automated production systems call for new competences and responsibility for efficient maintenance. The paper presents automated production system which is considered as socio-technical system whose effective maintenance is based on knowledge management. In this paper Object-Oriented Modelling and UML were pointed to, as enhancing communication and documentation effectiveness in interdisciplinary teams responsible for maintenance.

An approach to automated tacit-knowledge acquisition and transformation in manufacturing companies

Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska; Irene Krebs; Adam Dudek

This paper presents an approach to the real-time acquiring of tacit knowledge from employees, and to transform this knowledge using the example of service departments in manufacturing companies. The discussed approach was prepared using the speech-recognition method, Web Ontology Language, and also the Euclidean-distance method, in order to validate the following of standard procedures in service departments in a manufacturing company. The application of the proposed process of knowledge acquisition and transformation model is believed to be very useful for the companies.

Decision support model based on the GMDH method for implementing business strategies in Polish manufacturing enterprises (DS-BSI)

Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska; Irene Krebs

This study analyzes the success of the implementation of business strategies in Polish manufacturing enterprises. It focuses on the use of motivators for knowledge workers and is based on a survey and from data obtained from 119 Polish manufacturing enterprises. In this study, the effect of the use of motivators in a manufacturing company is investigated via a simulation of a model using the Group Method of Data Handling. This article develops a framework of how to achieve the goals of the strategy in a manufacturing company and discusses the results of the research.

Exemplar Functionalities of the Intelligent System for Tacit-Knowledge-Transfer Support for an IT Company

Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska; Irene Krebs

This article aims to present the usage flow of the intelligent system for Tacit Knowledge-Transfer-Support for an IT company. The following exemplar functionalities of this system are described: C1-F1: Selecting the processes that are carried out by an employee, C1-F2: Determining the employees’ knowledge and C2-F2: Determining the weighting of each component of the personnel-usefulness function using the FAHP method. The presented functionalities enable the selection of the employees with the appropriate skills as the main tacit-knowledge source within a company and acquiring the knowledge from them.

Principal Sources for the Identification of Tacit Knowledge Within an IT Company, as Part of an Intelligent System

Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska; Irene Krebs

This article aims to present principal sources for the identification of tacit knowledge within an IT Company, as part of an intelligent system. It is stated, that knowledge workers have the specialised knowledge to come up with or formulate new ideas and that this specialised knowledge is the product of targeted education, experience and competences. Using our personnel usefulness function (Evaluation of Personnel as an Asset – EPS method), a base of knowledge workers, within an IT company is created and then, by using the FAHP method, the main sources of tacit knowledge (MTKS) from this base of knowledge workers are identified. Finally, the implementation of our approach in an information system is presented.

A concept of a decision support system for the selection of a knowledge management tool for a manufacturing company

Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska; Irene Krebs

This article analyzes the management of critical knowledge within a manufacturing company whose workers should be supported by a knowledge management tool based on a data obtained from 69 Polish Manufacturing Enterprises from Lubuskie region and from 23 German Manufacturing Enterprises from Brandenburg region. It focuses on the approach of the use of an FAHP (Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process) method for the creation of an objective decision in the selection process of a knowledge management tool, especially in regards to qualitative and immeasurable criteria. The concept of the decision-support system presented in this paper serves then as foundations for guidelines for the improvement of knowledge management processes in a manufacturing company.

Exploring the Influence of the Use of an ERP System on Strategy Development in German and Polish Manufacturing Enterprises: An Empirical Investigation

Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska; Irene Krebs

This article aims to explore the effects of the use of an ERP system in a manufacturing company on strategy development as described by defined factors. The work is based on a survey and data obtained from 62 Polish manufacturing enterprises from the Lubuskie region, and from 23 German manufacturing enterprises from the Brandenburg region, in which the companies were categorised as either “construction” or “automotive” – a total of 85 manufacturing enterprises. Special attention was placed on the description of understanding the usage of an ERP system within a company. Nevertheless, relatively little information has been published that focuses on the post-implementation stages of ERP usage in a manufacturing company. In particular, this study pays attention to the likely consequences and results of the use of defined functionalities of an ERP system by employees. This is followed by a discussion of the results of the empirical studies and of key supporting literature. The summary indicates potential directions for further work.
