This paper uses an applied general equilibrium model to analyze the impacts of quota and tariff restrictions used by developed countries against textile and clothing imports from developing countries. In the model, countries are represented by their actual size in terms of GDP, weakening rent transfer effects compared to partial equilibrium analysis. This paper contains a brief summary of the nature of domestic policies and international agreements in agriculture, and an outline of a simple computable gene ral equilibrium model of the grain market. Preliminary results presen ted here suggest that the gains from global liberalization in agricul ture could exceed the gains from further liberalization on trade in m anufactured goods by the developed world.
