We propose new structures of polymeric composites with changeable optical characteristics (transmission and/or reflection of polarized light) under the influence of magnetic and/or electric fields. The new monomers 4-methacroyloxy-(4′-carboxy-3′-hydroxy)-azobenzene, 4-methacroyloxy-(4′-carboxy-3′-hydroxy)-2-nitroazobenzene,and 4-methacroyloxy-(4′-carboxy-3′-hydroxy)-2-diethylamino-azobenzene, their complexes with Co, and polymers based on their base are synthesized. The influence of the electric field on the absorption spectra of films of the new metal-containing azopolymers is investigated. The effect of an electric field on the transmission of a linearly polarized light through the films is revealed. This effect is determined by the re-orientation of the dipole moments of azobenzene groups which is induced by a polarized light under the action of an electric field. The increase of the dipole moments of azobenzene groups due to the introduction of donor and acceptor substituents reduces the influence of Co ions on the electrooptical properties of polymeric films.

Novel Eu(III) complex with 2-methyl-5-phenylpentene-1-dione-3,5, metallopolymer based on and copolymer with N-vinylcarbazole were obtained. The kinetics of polymerization was studed by dilatometric method. The complex and metallopolymer were investigated and characterized by a number of physicochemical methods. The obtained results allowed to determine the composition, structure and symmetry of synthesized compounds. On the basis of metallopolymers was constructed the electroluminescent diode.

Influence of the Chromophore Concentration on the Electro-Optical Effect in Polycomplexes of Azobenzene Derivatives

Irina Savchenko; Nikolaj Davidenko; Irina Davidenko; Anatolij Popenaka; Agnessa Sinyugina

The new polymeric composites with azobenzene chromophores are synthesized, and the influence of the chromophore concentration on the photoelectrical effect in films of these materials are investigated. The influence of the external electric field on the absorption spectra of azopolymer films are studied. Electro-optical properties of polymeric films are determined by the re-orientation of the dipole moments of azobenzene groups photoinduced by polarized light in the electric field. The photoelectric effect grows owing to the increase of the azobenzene chromophore concentration.

Synthesis and Electrooptical Properties of Metal-Containing Azopolymers. The Influence of Steric Factors on the Electro-Optical Effect in Polycomplexes of Azobenzene Derivatives with Cobalt

Irina Savchenko; Nikolaj Davidenko; Irina Davidenko; Anatolij Popenaka; Vladimir Syromyatnikov

We propose new structures of metal-containing azopolymers with changeable electro-optical properties in consequence of different coordination metal ions. The new monomers – 4-methacroyloxy-(4′-carboxy-3′-hydroxy)-azobenzene, 4-methacroyloxy-2′-carboxy-azobenzene and their complexes with Co and polymers based of these ones are synthesized. The influence of the electric field on the absorption spectra of new metal-containing azopolymers films are investigated. Electro-optical properties of polymeric films is determined by the re-orientation of dipole moments of azobenzene groups photo induced by polarized light in the electric field. Increase of structural inflexibility by the photo isomerization of azobenzene groups decrease the electro-optical effect value.

Studies on aging and intrachain stabilization of styrene-based polymeric materials

Vladimir Syromyatnikov; Aleksiej Yu Kolendo; Irina Savchenko; Valeriy M. Yashchuk; Ludmila Paskal; Tomasz Prot

Abstract This paper describes some results of an artificial and natural aging of polystyrene-based materials. Two mechanisms of aging–thermal destruction and photooxidation are discussed. There are two means of stabilization: with additives and with chemically bonded stabilizers. The second way is preferable because it gives a solution to the compatibility problem. New monomers as intrachain stabilizers are proposed: methacrylic esters of aminophenol derivatives, with acylamino and imide groups, can be readily copolymerized with styrene. Their monomer units in the chain can increase the thermal stability of styrene polymers and copolymers at high temperatures. Also, they can act as photostabilizers due to the processes of the intramolecular energy transfer between the aromatic systems in the monomer unit. Such stabilization is not accompanied by any chemical changes in the system when the last one is illuminated.

In Situ Immobilization on the Silica Gel Surface and Adsorption Capacity of Poly[N-(4-carboxyphenyl)methacrylamide] on Toxic Metal Ions

Elina Yanovska; Irina Savchenko; Dariusz Sternik; Olga Kychkiruk; Lidiya Ol’khovik; Iana Buriachenko

In situ immobilization of poly[N-(4-carboxyphenyl)methacrylamide] has been performed on silica gel surface. Infrared (IR) and mass spectroscopies as well as thermogravimetry (TG) analysis have been used to elucidate the structure of immobilized polymer. An adsorption capacity of the synthesized composite towards Cu(II), Pb(II), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), and Ni(II) ions has been estimated. Adsorption activity to microquantities of Pb(II), Cu(II), and Ni(II) in a neutral aqueous medium has been observed.

Irina Savchenko; A. S. Berezhnytska; A. Mishchenko

The complexes of praseodymium(III) with 2-methyl-5-phenylpentene-1-3,5-dione (mphpd) Pr(mphpd)3·2H2O and allyl-3-oxo-butanoate (allyl), Pr(allyl)3·2H2O, were synthesized. The polycomplexes on their basis [Pr(mphpd)3] n , [Pr(allyl)3] n , and copolymers with styrene Pr(mphd)3-со-styrene Pr(allyl)3-co-styrene in ratio 5:95 were obtained by free-radical polymerization and the kinetics of polymerization was studied by dilatometric method at the first time. The method of dynamic light scattering and the results of electronic microscopy showed that the obtained polymer systems are nanoscale. The luminescent spectra of obtained metal complexes in solid state are investigated and analyzed.

Novel Ytterbium(III) β-Diketonate with Unsaturated Substituent as a Precursor of NIR-Emitting Materials

Artem M. Mishchenko; Aleksandra Berezhnytska; Elena Trunova; Irina Savchenko

Novel Yb(III) complex with unsaturated β-diketone methacrylacetophenone and its adduct with 1,10-phenanthroline were synthesized and characterized by a number of physicochemical methods (chemical and thermal analysis, infrared, electronic and luminescent spectroscopy). The results obtained indicate the possibility of using these compounds as precursors of NIR-emitting (near infrared) materials.
