The Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and multiple neurofibromatosis in a kindred of mixed derivation, with special emphasis on hemostasis in the Ehlers-Danlos syndrome

Richard M. Goodman; John M. Levitsky; Irving A. Friedman

Abstract A kindred of mixed ethnic origin is described in which two simple autosomal dominant diseases (the Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and multiple neurofibromatosis) appeared in rare combination. These two diseases were distinct since some members manifested one without the other. Studies in hemostasis in relationship to the Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in this kindred showed defects in platelet function (thromboplastic and clot retraction) as well as vascular defects. The possible link of several mesenchymal tissue abnormalities, including thrombocytes, blood vessels and collagen tissue, is pointed out.
