On the power of the Augmented Dickey–Fuller test against fractional alternatives using bootstrap

Luisa Bisaglia; Isabella Procidano

Abstract We consider a new bootstrap approach to test for a unit root in fractionally integrated time series. We find that this test always improves the power of the Augmented Dickey–Fuller test.

Wine tourism quality perception and customer satisfaction reliability: the Italian Prosecco District

Christine Mauracher; Isabella Procidano; Giovanna Sacchi

ABSTRACT Recently, we witnessed a growing interest in those tourist experiences that focus on the enhancement and promotion of typical local cultures, in particular related to winemaking traditions. In Italy this evidence is also demonstrated by the emergence of events and tours linked to the promotion of Italian wine. It is therefore necessary to pay particular attention to the degree of satisfaction expressed by visitors with regard to the services currently offered within the framework of their wine tourism experience. The present research applies a study on customer satisfaction in the area of the Prosecco district, in the Veneto Region in Italy. The aim of the paper is to understand, by the use of a mixture model denoted as the Covariate Uniform Binomial Model, whether and to what extent the high degree of quality perceived by respondents depends on factors related to personal experience rather than on the circumstances in which the interviews were conducted. Results show that socio-demographic variables have a great impact on wine tourism behaviour. As a consequence, the possibility of creating segments of consumers based on socio-demographic characteristics and consumer behaviour shows the need to consider different marketing policies to satisfy the different needs of tourists that emerged.

Analysing Wine Demand With Artificial Neural Networks

Margherita Gerolimetto; Christine Mauracher; Isabella Procidano

In this paper we analyse wine demand in Italy with microdata. Instead of estimating a parametric model, we study the demand following a non parametric approach by means of Artificial Neural Networks. The input set includes the usual economic variables (price and income) and some sociodemographic factors that are also shown to be relevant for demand analysis. We compute price elasticities using two different nonparametric procedures. (JEL Classification: C14, C21, Q11, Q13)

A test for fractional cointegration using the sieve bootstrap

Margherita Gerolimetto; Isabella Procidano

The concept of fractional cointegration (Cheung and Lai in J Bus Econ Stat 11:103–112, 1993) has been introduced to generalize traditional cointegration (Engle and Granger in Econometrica 55:251–276, 1987) to the long memory framework. In this work we propose a test for fractional cointegration with the sieve bootstrap and compare by simulations the performance of our proposal with other semiparametric methods existing in literature: the three steps technique of Marinucci and Robinson (J Econom 105:225–247, 2001) and the procedure to determine the fractional cointegration rank of Robinson and Yajima (J Econom 106:217–241, 2002).

How People Evaluate a Product in an Online Environment: The Role of Uncertainty and Liking Feeling

Francesca Checchinato; Isabella Procidano; Marta Pisani

Although it is well known that travellers look at other travellers’ opinions and recommendations to plan their trips, and the number of people reviewing touristic attractions is increasing, little is known about how people judge them. Numerous studies have examined user behaviour in creating contents and participating in the online community using various methods, but research that investigates how consumers express opinions about hotel attributes is still lacking. In particular, since expressed preferences as well as ratings could be the result of both the uncertainty of consumers in evaluating an item and the liking feeling about the item (D’Elia and Piccolo 2005), the aim of this chapter is to understand the role of these components in the evaluating process, in order to segment the market and to define different users’ profile.
