Layered perovskite-type oxides A2Ln2Ti3O10 (A = Li, Na, K; Ln = La, Nd) prepared by solid-phase synthesis and their hydrated forms were characterized by the methods of TGA, XRD, and by UV-Vis spectroscopy. Photocatalytic activity of A2Ln2Ti3O10 oxides in reaction of hydrogen evolution from aqueous alcoholic suspensions irradiated by UV-light was studied. It was shown that the ability to intercalation of water into interlayer space essentially affects the rate of photoinduced hydrogen evolution and is a determining factor leading to a high photocatalytic activity.

The catalytic activity of the perovskite-like layered oxides NaNdTiO4, LiNdTiO4, and HNdTiO4 in the reaction of the methyl orange dye decomposition under the action of UV irradiation was studied. Rate constants of the pseudo-first order were determined. It was found that in the series NaNdTiO4, HNdTiO4, and LiNdTiO4 the photocatalytic activity of the layered oxides increases.

The photocatalytic activity of the composites TiO2-MOx (M = Ni, Cu, Zn, Fe, Cr) was studied in the reaction of hydrogen generation from aqueous alcoholic suspensions under UV light. The samples modified by the oxides of the metals capable of being reduced from oxides under photocatalytic conditions showed a high catalytic activity. The studied modifiers were divided in three groups in terms of their effect of the photocatalytic activity of TiO2: activating (NiO, CuO), inhibiting (Fe2O3), and indifferent (ZnO, Cr2O3).

Layered perovskite-like oxides ANdTa2O7 (A = H, Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs) were synthesized and characterized by means of diffuse reflection spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and simultaneous thermal and X-ray phase analysis. Comparative analysis of the photocatalytic activity of ANdTa2O7 in the UV-induced hydrogen evolution from an aqueous isopropanol solution was performed. NaNdTa2O7 and HNdTa2O7 are able to intercalate water to the interlayer space. The compositions and thermal stability ranges of intercalates were determined. No explicit correlation between the photocatalytic activity of layered oxides and their ability to intercalate water to the interlayer space was found.

It was found that the contact of the layered oxide Rb2Nd2Ti3O10 with an aqueous solution gives rise to a protonation process, which leads to lowering the oxide photocatalytic activity in reactions of hydrogen evolution from a water-alcohol solution.

The Rb2La2Ti3O10 layered oxide was synthesized by the solid-state method. Three phases with different protonation degrees and intercalated water contents were obtained from the initial compound by the treatment with distilled water and hydrochloric acid. The obtained samples were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, SEM, X-ray microanalysis, BET, DRS, and TG. It was found that the complete ion exchange of Rb

A new perovskite-like oxide (Rb2Nd2Ti3O10) is synthesized by the ceramic method. Its stability in a humid atmosphere and aqueous solutions of different acidities is investigated. Under these conditions, the formation of hydrated and protonated compounds is revealed. The parameters of the unit cell of the Rb2Nd2Ti3O10 oxide and its derivatives and the degree of rubidium substitution by protons for the obtained protonated phases are determined.
