Time of parturition in ewes

Ivan L. Lindahl

Abstract The time of parturition in 1,270 ewes was recorded over a 5-year period. Definite and statistically significant period effects existed in the time of parturition when data obtained on ewes of all ages and all births were pooled. Peaks of parturition occurred in the periods between 9 and 12 a.m. and between 3 and 6 p.m. The data also illustrated that the period effects were due to the parturition pattern displayed by the ewes of 3 years of age or older and were largely a result of variations in frequency of multiple births of these ewes.

Cyclophosphamide as a Chemical “Defleecing” Agent for Sheep

E. H. Dolnick; Ivan L. Lindahl; Clair E. Terrill; Paul J. Reynolds

SHEEP shearing is becoming more of a problem because of the shortage of experienced shearers in many areas. An alternative and easier procedure for removing wool would be useful to the sheep rancher whether his operation is small or large.

A comparison of DDT and methoxychlor accumulation and depletion in sheep

Paul J. Reynolds; Ivan L. Lindahl; Helene C. Cecil; Joel Bitman

Notwithstanding their similarities in chemical structure, DDT and methoxychlor differ appreciably in the extent to which they accumulate in animal tissues. While this difference has been recognized since at least 1950 (LEHMAN 1950), no direct comparison has ever been reported of DDT and methoxychlor residues in a meat animal species. To make such a comparison in the sheep was the objective of this study.
