Artifacts Removal of EEG Signals Using Nonlinear Adaptive Autoregressive

Arjon Turnip; Iwan Setiawan

Analysis of EEG activity usually raises the problem of differentiating between genuine EEG activity and that which is introduced through a variety of external influence. These artifacts may affect the outcome of the EEG recording. In this paper, the Nonlinear Autoregressive (NAR) algorithm for artifacts removal of EEG signals in connection with the choice of the model structure (order) and computation of the system coefficients is proposed. The proposed method was tested in real EEG records acquired from eight subjects. The experimental result show that the proposed method can effectively remove the artifacts from all subjects.

An Experiment of Spike Detection Based Mental Task with Ayes Movement Stimuli

Arjon Turnip; Grace Gita Redhyka; Hilman Syaeful Alam; Iwan Setiawan

In this paper, an experiment of spike detection based mental task with ayes movement stimuli is reported. The approximation of ICA algorithm is required to eliminate artifacts and detect a pike of brain activity according to the given stimuli which are normal, closed, and blinking ayes. A comparison of ICA algorithms based Extended Fourth Order Blind Identification and Algorithm for Multiple Unknown Signal Extraction is tested. The quality of the extracted signals is measured through the value of the signal to interference ratio and signal to distortion ratio. The extracted results indicate that the best spike detection is achieved using AMUSE algorithm. Keywords:EEG,spike, IndependentComponent Analysis (ICA).

Controller design for active suspension system based on skyhook reference model

Arjon Turnip; Iwan Setiawan; M. Faizal Amri; Tua Agustinus Tamba

In this paper, an alternative design technique for vehicles active suspension system using model reference adaptive control method is presented. To verify the performance of the design controller, a skyhook damping system was adopted as the reference model. An adaptive controller for a quarter-size vehicles active suspension system is designed. The controller parameters are determined using Lyapunov method and can be tuned to precisely achieve the type of desired response. The simulation results show that an active suspension system with the designed control strategy is able to improve the ride comfort and the road holding, significantly, compared with the conventional passive suspension systems as well with semi-active suspension.

An instrument that has special function to record electrical brain activity in scalp is electroencephalograph (EEG). Recently has various function, one of them is brain computer interface (BCI). BCI application can make human brain interaction with environment without other parts of body. Mental task is the important part in BCI system. Mental task which generate from brain, especially happen in central lobe. In fact, mental task disturbed by other signal which generate from other parts of brain. It is make problem to extract the real mental task from brain. In this research algorithm ICA-JADEis used to extract mental task activity in EEG signal recorded. The experiment was collected in 6 subject people. Stimulus for each subjectto move right hand for generate mental task have been design. Result of this research show ICA-JADE method can extract mental task from EEG signal recorded and the quantity perform of ICA-JADE is compared with the pure mental task signal.

Towards the challenging REE exploration in Indonesia

Iwan Setiawan

Rare earth elements (REE) are the seventeen elements, including fifteen from 57La to 71Lu, in addition to 21Sc and 39Y. In rock-forming minerals, rare earth elements typically occur in compounds as trivalent cations in carbonates, oxides, phosphates, and silicates. The REE occur in a wide range of rock types: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. REE are one of the critical metals in the world. Their occurrences are important to supply the world needs on high technology materials. Indonesia has a lot of potential sources of REE that are mainly from residual tin mining processes in Bangka islands, which are associated with radioactive minerals e.g. monazite and xenotime. However, the REE from monazite and xenotime are difficult to extract and contain high radioactivity. Granitoids are widely distributed in Sumatra, Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Papua. They also have a very thick weathering crusts. Important REE-bearing minerals are allanite and titanite. Their low susceptibilities during weathering result an economically potential REE concentration. I-/A- type granitoids and their weathered crusts are important REE sources in Indonesia. Unfortunately, their distribution and genesis have not been deeply studied. Future REE explorations challenge are mainly of the granitoids their weathered crusts. Geochemical and mineralogical characterization of type of granitoids and their weathered crusts, the hydrothermally altered rocks, and clear REE regulation will help discover REE deposits in Indonesia.

Mathematical modeling and simulation of temperature control system for artificial catfish spawning

Hanif Fakhrurroja; Iwan Setiawan

Catfish is one of the leading profitable commodities. Catfish consumption in recent years has increased. However, the loss of commodity still happened in the entire fishery production chain, particularly in fish cultivation activities, i.e. the spawning process. One of the problems in catfish cultivation is extreme changes in environment temperature. This research aims to develop a system to control the temperature of the fish pond in ideal conditions for fish spawning that is 27°C-30°C. This paper explains mathematical modeling and simulation using MATLAB to get data about temperature control design and pond description of spawning. The testing results show the temperature control system prototype succeed to keep the spawning pond in ideal temperature condition, i.e. 27°C-30°C.

Comparing deterministic and geostatistical methods for spatial rainfall distribution in Jakarta area

Arnida L. Latifah; Iwan Setiawan

This paper presents a case study for investigating a spatial rainfall distribution. This study looks at the area of Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia whose a big problem in flooding during rainy season. The need of a good quality of the spatial rainfall distribution as an input for hydrological model is the motivation of this papers. The objective of this study is to find the most reliable method to describe spatial rainfall distribution according to the limited data from rain gauge stations. The present study employs deterministic and geostatistical methods. In this paper both results are compared and analyzed. Findings indicate that deterministic model give the most efficient computation, particularly spline method performs rainfall estimation very well with smallest mean square error.
