Abstract Quasi-free proton-proton scattering at 6 Li, 7 Li and 9 Be has been studied at 156 MeV with an overall energy resolution of 2.1 MeV for 6 Li and 1.7 MeV for 7 Li and 9 Be. Two magnetic spectrometers, multi-channel scintillation detectors or spark chambers and an on-line computer were used. Summed energy spectra and angular correlations of the components of these spectra are given. The results suggests 1p + 2s configuration mixing for external protons in 6 Li and 7 Li. The (1s) −1 splitting is observed for both nuclei.

Abstract The light product nuclei from the reaction 40 Ar + 232 Th at 295 MeV and at laboratory angles of 18° and 40°, were identified using combined ΔE E and magnetic analysis techniques. The yield distributions and the kinetic energies of the reaction products have very distinct properties at these two angles. The data are consistent with the assumption of a predominant “quasi-elastic” reaction mechanism at 40° and a “deep inelastic” one at 18°. The isotopic dependence of the cross sections is not correlated with the ground state Q -values of the reaction. The experimental kinetic energies at 18° favour the interpretation that the observed nuclei are close to primary reaction products.

Abstract Both the ( 16 O, 14 N) and ( 16 O, 14 C) reactions have been investigated on 54 Fe and 58 Ni target nuclei at 80 MeV incident energy. Both reactions are selective. The kinematical conditions have been found to act in two ways: (i) the high-spin states are enhanced and (ii) the states involving nucleons in the f- or p-shells are favoured. Three groups of T = 1 analog states have been located in 56 Ni and 60 Zn from a comparison of the two transfer reactions on the same target, and configuration assignments are attempted.
