ABSTRACT The present investigation reports the synthesis of mixed-ligand complexes of the type MAL, where M=Ni(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) A=2,2′-bipyridylamine and H2L1=catechol, H2L2=pyrogallol, H2L3=2,3-dihydroxynaphthalene, H2L4=protocatechuic acid. Their structures have been elucidated on the basis of elemental analyses, conductivity, thermogravimetric, magnetic moments and IR spectroscopy. The results are in accord with an octahedral environment around the central metal ions except for Ni(II). All chelates are diamagnetic. A study of the thermal properties has also been carried out.

Abstract The preparation of mixed ligand complexes of Ni(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) + 2, 2′-bipyridylamine (2, 2′-bipy. A) + thioacids, such as thioglycolic acid (TGA), thiolactic acid (TLA) and thiomalic acid (TMA) has been carried out. Their physico-chemical properties have been studied using modern analytical techniques. Structure and composition of the complexes have been established on the basis of their elemental analysis, conductivity, magnetic moments, electronic spectra, infrared spectra, H NMR and thermogravitnetric analysis. They have also been tested for their antibacterial activities. Octahedral geometry has been assigned to all the isolated complexes.
High Performance Polymers | 1992

A high molecular weight copolymer of N-acryloyl-o-aminobenzoic acid (OAB) and styrene has been prepared by radical polymerization using benzoyl peroxide initiator in dioxane solvent. The copolymer has been fractionated by fractional precipitation and the fractions characterized by viscometry, vapour pressure osmometry and gel permeation chromatography. Mark-Houwink-Kuhn-Sakurada (MHKS) relationships are developed for three different solvents. Both the intrinsic viscosities and the viscosity constants of eight PO-PS fractions were obtained by the Huggins, Kraemer, Martin and Schulz-Blaschke methods in dimethyl formnamide, toluene and tetrahydrofuran solvents. It was concluded that the values obtained by these four methods are in close agreement.

Abstract Polychelates of Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cr(III), VO(II) and Zn(II) were prepared from the copolymer of o-N-acryloyl-aminobenzoic acid and styrene. All the polychelates were characterized by elemental analyses, diffuse reflectance spectra, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR and conductivity measurements. These polychelates are dark-coloured, non-electrolytes and insoluble in common organic solvents. These polychelates show a six-coordinated structure and octahedral stereochemistry. From thermogravimetric analysis, the thermal stability of these polychelates was determined.
