Size class reduction in a cumulative rates model for a grinding mill circuit

J.D. le Roux; Ian K. Craig

Abstract The number of size classes used in a cumulative rates model to simulate a grinding mill circuit was reduced from 25 to 5. The model remains qualitatively and quantitatively accurate when 5 size classes are used, with variations of less than 5% from the base case of 25 size classes. If the model is implemented in a model-based controller, the reduced number of size classes can possibly lessen the computational load for on-line implementation.

An offline autonomous vehicular actuator control system

T. D. Ramotsoela; J.D. le Roux

VANETs apply new generation wireless technology to vehicles to provide additional safety features for the driver. There are, however, a lot of connectivity issues related to VANETs so a system which combines both online and offline capabilities would thus be more robust. This paper explores an autonomous vehicular actuator control system which would form part of a larger VANET system but provide offline following functionality. When a communication link is not required, the system can follow different cars with little to no modification to the lead vehicle. It was found that it is possible to have an offline vehicle following system designed with inexpensive sensors.
