The image force on a dislocation near an elliptic hole in nonlocal elasticity

K. L. Pan; J. Fang

SummaryA basic solution to the problem of a screw dislocation near a circular hole in nonlocal clasticity is first presented. The nonlocal stress and nonlocal image force on the screw dislocation are derived whereby the singularities in both classical stress and classical image force are eliminated. Then, the nonlocal image force on a screw dislocation near an elliptic hole is obtained by a conformal mapping technique. The maximum of the image force and the corresponding position of hte dislocation are estimated for a dislocation very close to the holes.ÜbersichtZuerst wird eine Lösung für das Problem einer Schraubenversetzung neben einem kreisförmigen Loch bei nichtlokaler Elastizität vorgestellt.

Nonlocal interaction of a dislocation with a crack

K. L. Pan; J. Fang

SummaryBased on the classical stress analysis, the stress field of a screw dislocation near a semi-infinite crack is investigated by a conformal mapping method. The classical image force on the dislocation due to the crack is presented by the obtained classical image stress. To eliminate the singularity of the stress field at the crack tip, the nonlocal elasticity theory is adopted. A maximum of the image stress is found near the crack tip and the nonlocal image force is then acquired by the obtained nonlocal stress field. Both the stress and the image force show much difference from the classical ones and seem to be more reasonable physically.ÜbersichtBasierend auf der klassischen Spannungsanalyse einer Schraubenversetzung neben einem halb-unendlichen Riß mittels einer konformen Abbildung wird die klassische Bildkraft auf die Schraubenversetzung als Folge des Risses vorgestellt.

Large dynamic plastic deflection of a simply supported beam subjected to rectangular pressure pulse

Ya-Pu Zhao; Tongxi Yu; J. Fang

SummaryThis paper concerns the dynamic behaviour of rigid, perfectly plastic simply supported beams with finite deflections by considering both bending moments and axial forces. In the case of rectangular pressure pulse loading, approximate rigid-plastic theoretical solutions are obtained for both medium load and high load; to this end a parabolic law between bending moment and axial force as yield condition is approximated by a circumscribing or an inscribing rectangle. The concept of Saturation Impulse is put forward for the dynamic response of rigid, perfectly plastic structures with finite deflections subjected to rectangular pressure pulse. The value of dimensionless saturation impulse for both simply supported and fully clamped beams are given.ÜbersichtDieser Artikel behandelt das dynamische Verhalten von starren, ideal-plastischen, einfach gestützten Balken mit endlichen Auslenkungen.

The load carrying capacities of circular rings with arc-shaped supports

Ya-Pu Zhao; A.D. Holmes; J. Fang

Abstract This paper describes the quasi-static compression of metallic thin-walled circular rings with arc-shaped supports. An approximate analysis based on the ‘Equivalent Structure Technique’ is presented to estimate the load carrying capacity of circular rings with arc-shaped supports and the positions where plastic hinges form. Good agreement is found, between the experimental values and those predicted by this approximate theory. The effect of the support arc angle is also considered.

The dynamic viscoplastic behavior of thick-walled spherical shells

Ya-Pu Zhao; J. Fang; Tongxi Yu

Abstract A theoretical analysis is presented for the dynamic viscoplastic response of thick-walled spherical shells subjected to internal pressure. The material is rigid-viscoplastic and incompressible; the viscoplastic constitutive equations due to Hohenemser and Prager are used. As a specific example, the quasi-static case is also studied.

Influence of Two Secondary Effects on Shear Failure of Cantilever with Attached Mass Block under Impulsive Loading

Ya-Pu Zhao; Tongxi Yu; J. Fang

The influence of two secondary effects, rotatory inertia and presence of a crack, on the dynamic plastic shear failure of a cantilever with an attached mass block at its tip subjected to impulsive loading is investigated. It is illustrated that the consideration of the rotatory inertia of the cantilever and the presence of a crack at the upper root of the beam both increase the initial kinetic energy of the block required to cause shear failure at the interface between the beam tip and the tip mass, where the initial velocity has discontinuity Therefore, the influence of these two secondary effects on the dynamic shear failure is not negligible.
