Relationship between Apoptosis and Ultrastructure of Mitochondria of Colorectal Cancer

Objective:To study the ultrastructure of mitochondria of colorectal cancer.Methods:18 cases of colorectal cancer specimens were collected from Mary hosipital in University of Hong Kong.The ultrastructures of the specimens from colorectal cancer lesions and normal mucosa were observed with electron microscopy.Results:The results showed that the colorectal cancer cells had swollen and vacuolated mitochondria with disarrangement and unfolding of cristae.In addition,apoptotic colorectal cancer cells had fewer mitochondria than non-apoptotic cancer cells in number,and it′s structure was more normal.Conclusion:The ultrastructure abnormalities of mitochondria is related to the metabolism and apoptosis of tumor.
