Abstract Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS) method which is commonly used for geodetic applications has a great potential to be successfully harnessed for multiple civil engineering applications. One of the most promising uses of TLS in construction industry is remote sensing of saturation of building materials. A research programme was prepared in order to prove that harnessing TLS for such an application is viable. Results presented in the current paper are a part of a much larger research programme focused on harnessing TLS for remote sensing of saturation of building materials. The paper describes results of the tests conducted with an impulse scanner Leica C-10. Tests took place both indoors (in a stable lab conditions) and outdoors (in a real environment). There were scanned specimens of the most popular building materials in Europe. Tested specimens were dried and saturated (including capillary rising moisture). One of the tests was performed over a period of 95 hours. Basically, a concrete specimen was scanned during its setting and hardening. It was proven that absorption of a laser signal is influenced by setting and hardening of concrete. Outdoor tests were based on scanning real buildings with partially saturated facades. The saturation assessment was based on differences of values of intensity. The concept proved to be feasible and technically realistic.

The paper presents a research programme focused on steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) based on waste ceramic aggregate (WCA) prepared from debris. The matrix was reinforced by steel fibre from 0.5% to 1.5% (by volume). Flexural tests were performed using a limit of proportionality (LOP) method and a procedure based on optical measurements with the help of Digital Image Correlation (DIC) System. Residual strengths were calculated and flexural strength classes were assigned. Conclusions concerning both properties of SFRC based on WCA and feasibility of using DIC system for testing SFRC were drawn.

Concrete used in civil structures is usually made on cement-based matrix and natural aggregates (such as sand, gravel, crushed stone, etc.). Ceramic waste aggregate is considered as a perspective replacement of a part of natural aggregate in modern environmentally oriented building material. Concrete with natural aggregate partially replaced by ceramic waste aggregate usually show different mechanical characteristics than ordinary concrete. This paper introduces the pilot study of fatigue parameters of six concrete mixtures with various amount of ceramic waste. The experimentally obtain results are compared and discussed.

Red waste ceramics (RWC) is getting increasing popularity as a raw material for coarse aggregate production. Aggregate obtained from RWC is characterized by very high water absorptivity. Therefore traditional concrete mix designing methods are not suitable for mixes based on RWC aggregates and a new approach is required. Replacing traditional coarse aggregates by RWC aggregate significantly influences the homogeneity of properties of hardened concrete and properties themselves. The conducted research programme addressed these technological obstacles through steel fibre reinforcement and the process of internal curing. Fibres were used in volumes of 0.0%, 0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5%. Specimens were in a form of: cubes, cylinders (used for strength tests), prisms (used for LOP test), circular plates (used for impact tests). During the impact tests, deflection and propagation of cracks were followed. Created fibre reinforced RWC concrete is characterized by values of residual flexural strengths enabling substitution of conventional reinforcement.

Abstract There are multiple obstacles associated both with technology and properties of waste ceramic aggregate concrete preventing its wide production and application. In the research programme these limitations were addressed through utilizing steel fibre reinforcement and the phenomenon of internal curing. After laboratory tests of mechanical properties a numerical analysis of composites in question was conducted.
