Method Cross-sectional study with a non-random sample of 84 outpatients with heart failure, performed in the city of João Pessoa, PB, Brazil, in the period from January to July 2015. The questionnaire by name Minnesota Living with Heart Questionnaire was used The following tests were applied in data analysis: t-Student, ANOVA and Pearsons Correlation, com a 5% significance level. Results The average scores of the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire showed a good quality of life in the group under study. There was a significant negative association between quality of life and age: thus the lower the age, the worse the quality of life. Conclusion Health promotion actions become necessary to improve the coping capacity of this disease, especially for younger patients.

Objective: to reflect on nursing education, taking into account the principles of complex thinking proposed by Morin. Method: reflection based on the principles of the complexity theory by Edgar Morin. Results: the application of complexity in teaching proposes an emancipatory education based on questioning and social transformation. It comprises the education of nurses who interact with others as a characteristic of their work. It is necessary to prepare students to develop critical and reflective attitudes and actions to overcome the fragmentation and linearity of knowledge. Conclusion: nursing care has been based on a reductionist assistance, reflecting the Cartesian model. Thus, nursing education seeks to comprise shared knowledge and experiences so that no subject or professional overpowers another, accepting the uniqueness of professionals and patients. Objective: to reflect on nursing education, taking into account the principles of complex thinking proposed by Morin. Aims: To identify nursing practice focuses and create statements in terms of the diagnoses and results of the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) for the institutionalized elderly. Method: This is a methodological study based on Horta’s theory, carried out in a long term care facility for the elderly (LTCF), using the cross-mapping technique and content validation. Eighty three (83) elderly individuals participated in the study. Results: We identified 192 focuses of nursing practice and the construction of 129 statements of diagnostics and results. According to the cross-mapping, we can highlight that 60 statements were constant and 69 were not listed in the ICNP®, version 2013. Conclusion: The 192 focuses of nursing practice that have been identified in the health assessment of the institutionalized elderly allowed the construction of 129 statements of diagnoses and results. These findings make it possible to implement the process in order to systematize nursing practice in these environments.

Objective: recognizing the social representations built by the elderly and health professionals about the activities offered to seniors in Primary Health Care Health Care. Method: an exploratory study of a qualitative approach based on Theoretical contribution of Social Representations in its dimensional approach conducted with 257 elderly and 249 professionals in the Family Health Units in the city of Joao Pessoa/Paraiba/Brazil. The collected data were processed with the SPSS 20.0 software and Iramuteq 0.6 alpha 3. Results: the results showed three classes: Dimensions associated with activities offered to the elderly, represented by: necessary, excellent, quality, poor, deficient and insufficient; Service improvement perspectives: improving, service, poor, lack, attention; and Professional dimensions in senior care, consisting of: importance, professionals, promote, quality of life, well-being, self-esteem. Conclusion: it is expected that this study will contribute to the reflection about the quality of activities offered to seniors in primary health care services and serves as a improvement for changes needed in the current context of the health of the elderly.

Jancelice Santos Santana; Maria Miriam Lima da Nóbrega; Jacira dos Santos Oliveira; Maria Júlia Guimarães Oliveira Soares

OBJECTIVE To report the development of a nursing consultation software for hypertensive users of the Family Health Strategy. METHOD Applied methodological research based on Roger Pressmans Software Engineering, developed in three cycles: planning, composed of the definition of the database prototyping and modelling; development of the navigation interface; and development of functional expressions and programming. RESULT The software consists of administrative and nursing consultation screens. In the history, there is the option of undertaking the first and next consultation; nursing diagnoses are suggested by the system after entering information and can be selected by nurses. Interventions for diagnoses are suggested and can be chosen by nurses after structuring the medical plan. CONCLUSION It is believed that the introduction of computer technology for nursing consultation brings several contributions, such as standardization, integration with different information systems, and continuous update.

Method: descriptive and documentary study performed by analyzing theses and dissertations defended from 2008 to 2016. Results: a total of 162 dissertations and 26 theses were defended, with higher prevalence of descriptive studies with qualitative approach, in the research line on Policies and Practices in Health and Nursing and in the thematic area of Nursing in Adult and Elderly Health, and the most frequent study scenario was the hospital. The semi-structured interview technique was the most used, with data analysis through statistical analysis softwares. It was found that the Basic Theory of Human Needs was the most used. Conclusion: there has been a greater scientific deepening of the Nursing science, with the consolidation of new research lines and, consequently, new perspectives and knowledge are built and widespread in the scientific community.

Introduction: Empathy is a complex human experience that involves the subjective intersection of different individuals. In the context of nursing care in the geriatric setting, the benefits of empathetic relationships are directly related to the quality of the practice of nursing. Objective: Analyze scientific production on the benefits of empathy in the nurse–patient relationship in the geriatric care setting. Methods: An integrative review of the literature was performed using the PubMed, Cochrane, CINAHL, Scopus, PsycINFO, and Web of Science databases. The articles retrieved were organized, evaluated, and classified based on the level of scientific evidence. Results: Relationships of empathy between nurses and older people were analyzed in quasi-experimental studies using different assessment tools, the majority of which had moderate levels of validity and reliability. Studies with a qualitative approach discussed the meaning of empathy in terms of the quality of care offered, compassion, and vulnerability. Discussion: Levels of empathy increase when activities are developed with the aim of teaching, sensitization, and training for relational care between nursing staff and older people. The analysis of empathetic relationships is important to the evaluation of the quality of care provided to older people. Conclusion: Empathy in the nurse–patient relationship in the geriatric care setting is an important ethical aspect that contributes to the quality of the practice of nursing. The present findings indicate the need for more robust assessment tools with adequate psychometric properties and the descriptive analysis of empathy.

The current study has the objective to identify main work accidents that occurs with nursing workers. This is an integrative literature review that enabled to include scientific articles indexed in the databases of Virtual Library in Health (BVS). Searches were made from october to november 2016, using the descriptors: “work accidents”, “nursing professionals”, separated between themselves by the boolean operator AND. The following criteria were adopted: fully available articles, in portuguese language, published in the last five years. Articles that presented some duplicity and didn’t meet the proposed study objectives were excluded. After searches, ten scientific productions about the subject were selected. Results indicate the occurrence of accidents between nursing professionals and the main factors were related with sharp object handling, non-utilization of IPEs, excessive workload and needle resurfacing. It is concluded that strategies are required to minimize these occurrences, as the adoption of standard precautionary measures, the adequacy of staff numbers and better work conditions to this professional category. Besides that, the need of new researches about this subject are emphasized.
