Control of Growth and Development in the Monocotyledons-New Areas of Experimental Research

Jack B. Fisher

Control of growth and development is examined from the viewpoint of three groups of phenomena characteristic of monocotyledons and related to (1) sheathing nature of the leaf, (2) lack of secondary growth in most species, and (3) presence of a unique cambium in some species. Some recent experimental investigations in these groups are reviewed, and tropical examples are stressed.
