IPv6 stateless address auto-configuration in mobile ad-hoc network (T-DAD) and performance evaluation

Dongkeun Lee; Jae-Pil Yoo; Keecheon Kim; Kyung-lim Kang

IPv6 Duplicate address Detection (DAD) process cannot be applicable for MANET without modification either because of the multi-hop problem or DAD time bound. In this paper, we propose a stateless auto-configuration that overcomes multi-hop problem. We solve the multi-hop problem by having some ad-hoc routable nodes doing DAD for the new node that is willing to accept DAD. Once a host configures its interfaces, it becomes possible to communicate in multi-hop environment. We call this new scheme as Tunneled DAD (T-DAD).

This paper describes global IPv6 address auto-configuration mechanism for MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc Network) nodes connected to the Internet via one or more gateways. IPv6 Duplicate Address Detection(DAD) process cannot be applicable for MANET without modification either because of the multi-hop problem or DAD time bound. In this paper, we propose a stateless auto-configuration that overcomes multi-hop problem. We solve the multi-hop problem by having some ad-hoc routable nodes doing DAD for the new node that is willing to accept DAD. These auto-configuration steps specifically include generation of link-local address and verification of its uniqueness. It further defines the processes of creating globally routable address and a new duplicate address detection mechanism. Once a host configures its interfaces, it becomes possible to communicate in multi-hop environment. We call this new scheme as Tunneled DAD (T-DAD).

Distributed IPv6 addressing technique for mobile ad-hoc networks

Dongkeun Lee; Jae-Pil Yoo; Hyunsik Kang; Keecheon Kim; Kyung-lim Kang

Connecting to the Internet through the nodes of an ad-hoc network is very challenging and necessary. We studied a MANET topology in which all nodes in this MANET need to be connected to the Internet through a special node called the Internet Gateway. Traditional IPv6 Duplicate address Detection(DAD) process cannot be applied for this topology without any modification. In this paper, we propose a stateful IPv6 auto-configuration scheme that can replace DHCPv6 for ad-hoc networks. Our simulation shows that this scheme is lighter and faster than DHCPv6.

Central Management and Tree Based Auto-configuration in MANET

Nowadays, IPv6 address system has been proposed since nearly ten years ago, the most attractive trait of this address system is the address auto-configuration. But all of these technologies are based on the wired network. In wireless network, especially in the ad hoc network, because of its dynamic and self-organized trait, auto-configuration is very difficult and complex. So in this paper, we try to propose a new mechanism for the auto-configuration in MANET. It is mainly based on the tree structure to generate the unique sequence number for each of nodes to guarantee the address conflict free. In order to avoid the DAD (Duplicate Address Detection), we import three root managing nodes. Each of them just handles one of three part of the whole of network and function some process, such as detecting the node which departs the network abruptly, initiating root managing node election, and managing the network merger

Independent Zone Setup Scheme for Re-configurable Wireless Network

Jae-Pil Yoo; Keecheon Kim

ZRP (Zone Routing Protocol), is especially considered to be suitable for moves of dynamic nodes and scalability of RWN. In configuring the ZRP zone, if we remove redundant function of a node, we can get performance improvement in routing. This improved performance of routing is usually from configuring a ZRP zone in which a node doest not have functioning zone head, relaying (internal) node, and peripheral node simultaneously. In such cases, internal routing information size based on link state can be significantly reduced. Hop count is also reduced when routing is reduced and routing loop prevention steps are taken. In this paper we introduce a zone setup scheme based on ZRP in which a node does not have overlapping function as head and relay, and border. Also we introduce a routing scheme for proposed new zone setup scheme.
