Synthesis of α-Metoylene-γ-Lactones in Furanosidic Systems

Amélia P. Rauter; José A. Figueiredo; Isabel M. Ismael; Maria Salomé Pais; Antonio G. González; Jesús G. Díaz; Jaime Bermejo Barrera

Abstract Synthesis of stereoisomeric α-methylene-γ-lactones in furanose-and furanuronoamide derivatives was easily accomplished by Reformatsky Reaction with ethyl bromcmethylacrylic ester and zinc. Pyridinium chlorochromate/3A molecular sieve powder showed to be an excellent reagent for the oxidation of secondary hydroxyl groups of a furanose system and of α-hydroxy amides.

Sesquiterpene lactones from Centaurea species

Antonio G. González; Jaime Bermejo Barrera; Tomás Zaragoza García; Francisco Estévez Rosas

Abstract The investigation of further Centaurea species gave, in addition to known compounds, one new sesquiterpene lactone, 11β, 15-dihydroxysaussurea lactone, of the elemanolide type.

Flavans of dragon’s blood from Dracaena draco and Dracaena tamaranae

Antonio G. González; Francisco León; Juan Carlos Hernández; Juan I Padrón; Lázaro Sánchez-Pinto; Jaime Bermejo Barrera

Abstract Flavans of D. draco subsp. draco and subsp. ajgal and of D. tamaranae were isolated and identified for a chemotaxonomic survey. A major constituent of all taxa was (2 S )-4,7′-dihydroxy-8-methylflavan.

The steroids and fatty acids of the basidiomycete Scleroderma polyrhizum

Antonio G. González; Jaime Bermejo Barrera; Francisco J. Tolfdo Marante

Abstract The fruit bodies of the Basidiomycete Scleroderma polyrhizum have been shown to contain the steroids ergosta-4,6,8(14) 22-tetraen-3-one and 5α,8α-epidoxyergosta-6,22-dien-3β-ol and also palmitic and oleic acids.

Sesquiterpene lactones and other constituents of Tanacetum species

Antonio Gonzalez; Jaime Bermejo Barrera; Jorge Triana Méndez; Mariana López Sánchez; José Luis Eiroa Martínez

Abstract One known and three new eudesmanolide derivatives were isolated in the form of their acetates from Tanacetum ferulaceum . Tanacetum ptarmicaeflorum gave three known germacranolides as well as other known compounds. The new substances were characterized by spectroscopic and chemical methods.

Sesquiterpene lactones from Tanacetum ferulaceum

Antonio G. González; Jaime Bermejo Barrera; Jorge Triana Méndez; Mariana López Sánchez; José Luis Eiroa Martínez

Abstract Two new sesquiterpene lactones of the eudesmanolide type, [6α-hydroxy-5,7αH,8βH-eudesm-4(15)-en-8,12-olide and 4β,6α-dihydroxy-5,7αH,8βH-eudesman-8,12-olide] were isolated from the aerial parts of Tanacetum ferulaceum , together with various other already-known substances: the sesquiterpene lactones, costunolide, tatridin A, 11,13-dihydrotatridin A, tatridin B, spiciformin, lα,10β-epoxydeacetyllaurenobiolide and deacetyl-β-cyclopyrethrosin, the flavonoids, apigenin, axillarin and 4′,5,7-trihydroxy-3,6-dimethoxyflavone, the coumarins, scopoletin and scoparone, and sitosterol and sitosteryl β- d -glucoside.

Sesquiterpene alcohols from Gonospermum fructicosum

Antonio Gonzalez; Jaime Bermejo Barrera; Jorge Triana Méndez; Mariana López Sánchez; José Luis Eiroa Martínez

Abstract The aerial part of Gonospermum fructicosum yielded three new sesquiterpene alcohols as well as four known compounds. The structures of the new compounds were established as 4α-hydroxy-4β-methyldihydrocostol, 1β-hydroxycostol and 3x-hydroxycostol by spectroscopic and chemical means.

Depsidones from Lobaria pulmonaria and their chemotaxonomic importance

Antonio Gonzalez; Jaime Bermejo Barrera; Elsa M. Rodríguez Pérez; Consuelo E. Hernández Padrón

Seven β-orcinol depsidones were isolated from Lobaria pulmonaria (L.) Hoffm. var. meridionalis (Vain) Zahlbr. gathered on Pinus canariensis, three, methylstictic acid, hypostictic acid and cryptostictic acid, for the first time from this species. Stictic acid and constictic acid acetone condensation derivatives were formed during the extraction process. The possible chemotaxonomic implications are discussed.

Structural characterization and metabolite profiling of the facultative marine fungus Paecilomyces variotii

Francisco Javier Toledo Marante; Roberto Mioso; Jaime Bermejo Barrera; Juan Emilio González González; Juan José Santana Rodríguez; Irma Herrera Bravo de Laguna

A new Paecilomyces variotii strain was isolated from the marine habitat. The fungal biomass necessary for the chemical study was produced with success, at a laboratory scale. A total of 28 structural groups were identified from volatile compounds that, in the main, are normal lipid compounds involved in the fatty acid pathway, fragments from their catabolism, terpenoids, and a metabolite from the shikimic acid route. In addition, two non-volatile compounds, triolein and ergosterol peroxide, were isolated and identified by spectroscopy. This is the first report to describe these compounds for the species P. variotii, suggesting its potential use as a natural source to produce nutraceuticals and functional foods.

Lanosterol derivatives from phellinus torulosus

Antonio G. González; Teresa Siverio Expósito; Francisco Javier Toledo Marante; M.J.Mediavilla Pérez; Esperanza Beltrán Tejera; Jaime Bermejo Barrera

Abstract Three novel triterpenoids, natalic, torulosic and albertic acid, were isolated from the fungus Phellinus torulosus . Their structures were elucidated by 1 H, 13 CNMR, MS and chemical methods.
