INFLUÊNCIA DE DIFERENTES SISTEMAS DE USO E MANEJO DO SOLO SOBRE A FLUTUAÇÃO POPULACIONAL DO OLIGOCHAETA EDÁFICO Amynthas SPP

B. C. B. Tanck; H. R. Santos; Jair Alves Dionísio

The influence of no-till (NT) and conventional tillage (CT) systems, native forest (NF) and grassland (G), on the population density and biomass of Oligochaeta Amynthas spp., at Campos Gerais in the state of Parana, Brazil, was evaluated monthly between February 1993 and January 1994. For the NT and CT systems, the areas were cultivated with corn, triticale and soybean, while, the native field consisted of vegetation of steppes of low grasses and a range forest of gallery forest. The population density was determined by the 0.22% formalin method and biomass was measured by weighing. The population density and biomass were greater in the NT and FN, compared with CT, while, in G, Amynthas spp. did not occur. The most expressive values population density and biomass in the ecosystems NT and NF were observed in the summer and spring.

Produção e componentes do algodoeiro herbáceo em função da aplicação de biossólidos

J. P. Pedroza; Adrianus C. van Haandel; Napoleão E. de M. Beltrão; Jair Alves Dionísio

Under greenhouse conditions at the National Center for Cotton Research (CNPA/ EMBRAPA) effects of increasing doses of sewage sludge (biosolids) equivalent to 0, 150, 250, 350, 450, and 550 kg ha-1 of N, limed at 50%ST were studied, on the variables of the production (production of cotton, weight of capsule, number of capsules, percentage of fibre and plumage weight) and components (aerial, root and total phytomass and the ratio between phytomass of aerial parts to root) of herbaceous cotton variety BRS 187 8H. The experimental design used was in random blocks, with 6 treatments and 5 replications. Each experimental unit, constituted of a plastic recipient of 90 dm3. According to the results obtained significant effects were observed by F test at 1% level of probabililty of the biosolid doses on the variables studied, except for the weight of capsule and percentage of fibre. With the regression analysis, linear increase of the variables was observed for the weight of cotton, plumage weight, aerial parts and total phytomass and the relation phytomass of aerial parts to root while a quadratic equation for the number of capsules per plant and root phytomass was found, the regression equations estimated biosolid doses equivalents to 441 and 231 kg N ha-1, respectively, for the maximum values for these variables.

Under greenhouse conditions at National Center for Research on Cotton (CNPA/ Embrapa), the effects of increasing doses of sewage sludge limited to 50% of dryness (equivalent to 0, 60, 100, 200, 250 and 300 kg N ha-1) were studied on the fiber quality (finess or micronaire, strength, length, length uniformity, short fiber index, elongation, stretching, spinning capability, reflectiveness and color grade) of herbaceous cotton variety BRS 187 8H. The experimental design adopted was a randomized blocks, with six treatments and five replications, resulting in 30 experimental units. Each experimental unit was composed of 90 dm3 plastic pot with 70 dm3 of soil. Significant quadratic effects were obtained with solid sewage sludge doses on the studied variables. The regression analyses estimated the dose of biosolids between 220 to 335 kg N ha-1 for the maximum values of the variables of interest. For maximum fiber resistance value, which is used as base for commercialization of cotton, the dose of biosolid was equivalent to 292 kg ha-1 of N.
