A new selective chemodosimeter probe of cyanide anions in aqueous media was developed by the introduction of a simple glyco-conjugated o-(carboxamido) aldehyde hydrazone into an azo dye as chemodosimeter that recognizes cyanide anions among other competing anions such as acetate, dihydrogen phosphate, fluoride through reversible covalent bonding. The sensing properties of the new materials were investigated in pure water and have demonstrated a very high selectivity toward the cyanide anions. The detection limit of the new chromogenic probe was measured to be 1.29 μM which is much lower than most recently reported chromogenic probes for cyanide determination.

Acidic ionic liquid was immobilized on silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles (Fe3O4@SILnP) and used as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the diazotization–iodination reaction of different aromatic amines under solvent-free conditions at room temperature. The diazonium salts that are formed by this catalyst are stable at room temperature and react rapidly with sodium iodide to produce aryl iodides in good to excellent yields. This method has some advantages such as low pollution, rapid access to products, simple work-up and easy separation of catalyst from the reaction mixture.

We report a simple colorimetric method based on a water soluble polymer (WSP) for the sensitive and selective detection of cyanide in a biological solution. The WSPs were prepared from a radical polymerization of a methacrylate with a cyanide chemosensor moiety based on a coumarin–dicyano-vinyl derivative motif, and the polymer was then rendered water soluble by copolymerizing this hydrophobic monomer with other glyco-conjugated methacrylate derivatives. The lowest concentration for the quantification of cyanide ions was 0.05 μM, and the polymer exhibited nearly no calorimetric response to the presence of other common anions. Therefore, the chemical incorporation of some carbohydrates, as lactose or its usual monosaccharide moieties (glucose, lactose), represents a new method for the implementation of polymers for the detection of cyanide anions in water, exhibiting both good selectivity and efficiency.

Abstract Novel functionalized geotextiles were prepared through chemical functionalization of the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) non-woven material by chitosan by using a coating technique with sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) as the cross-linking agent. The prepared functionalized geotextiles were characterized by using different surface analyses and they show that the chitosan was successfully coated on PET non-woven materials. The ability of the prepared geotextiles to remove some heavy metals (Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+) from the aqueous solution was also evaluated.Graphical Abstract
