The Relation of Students' Needs to Their Perceptions of a High School Environment

AbstractThis study examined the hypothesis that there is no significant relationship between high school students’ needs, as measured by the Activities Index, and high school students’ perceptions of environmental press, as measured by the High School Characteristics Index. One hundred twenty-five students from one high school, randomly selected from grades 9-12, were Ss. From 30 possible pair-wise Pearson product- moment correlations between the A1 and HSC1 subscales, 11 statistically significant correlations were obtained (p.>.05). Hence, a moderate and significant relationship between students’ needs and their perceptions of environmental press is Indicated.
