Flame resistant textiles for flash fires

Abstract: This chapter focuses on flame resistant protective clothing used in the chemical and petrochemical industries for flash fire protection. Flame resistant clothing has been widely used to provide worker protection against flash fire related injury and death. Performance characteristics and design, as well as the fibers and fabrics used in industrial flame resistant clothing for flash fire applications are reviewed. Improvements in workplace fire safety and increasing adoption of industrial flame resistant protective clothing have been observed as general trends across the globe. In this chapter, the term ‘flame retardant textiles’ is used interchangeably with the term ‘flame resistant textiles’.
