Electrical Energy from Ocean Waves—History and State of the Art in Australia

James T Carley; Tom Denniss

Several feasibility studies and proposals have been developed for wave power projects in Australia, though at present none have been implemented. The Water Research Laboratory of the University of New South Wales, Australia undertook a physical modelling development program of an oscillating water column device for Energetech Australia Pty Ltd. Energetechs device improves and extends existing oscillating water column technology through the use of a parabolic bay to focus the waves, and the development of a high efficiency turbine to better extract energy under reversing air flows.
