Panorex radiographs taken during the past 5 years at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry were reviewed for evidence of mucosal cysts of the maxillary sinus. Thirteen patients with this lesion were recalled for re-evaluation of their status. Ten of the patients had symptoms that could be related to the involved sinus. These included stuffiness, fullness, postnasal drip, gushing of yellow fluid from the nose, and headache. Radiographic examination revealed that three of the cysts had increased is size, three had decreased in size, three had not changed in size, and two had disappeared; no evaluation could be made on two. On the basis of radiographic, transillumination, history, and clinical findings, the nine cysts that could be evaluated were diagnosed as being of the nonsecretory type of mucosal cyst. We recommended periodic radiographic examination for this type of lesion. Surgical intervention is necessary only if destruction of surrounding bone has occurred or recurrence of disturbing symptoms is reported.

Rats fed large quantities of molybdenum for several weeks suffered connective tissue disturbances as revealed by reduced breaking strength of femurs, rupture strength of skin samples, and other tests.

This article deals with the dental management of patients with surgically corrected cardiac and vascular disease. The emphasis of the report is on the susceptibility of these patients to bacterial endocarditis or endarteritis and the prevention of these diseases in the susceptible patient receiving dental treatment. The author would strongly encourage the medical and dental professions to work together in the management of these patients. The dentist must seek medical consultation prior to rendering dental care, and the physician is encouraged to seek dental consultation and treatment for the patient who is going to receive a prosthetic heart valve or is a candidate for heart transplantation.

Rats were injected with parathyroid extract (PTE) to search for possible effects on connective tissue of the skin. Rupture strength analysis of skin samples showed a significant increase in strength of skin from PTE-treated rats. The explanation for this effect is not understood at present.

The effect of Aquaphor and petrolatum ointments on the healing of open granulating wounds in rats was studied. Wounds were observed up to ten days after wounding. The rate of wound contraction and epithelization was measured. Aquaphor- and petrolatum-treated wounds were significantly smaller by day ten. The rate of epithelization was retarded in treated wounds observed six days after wounding, but returned to normal by day ten.
