Location of complex faults on overhead power line

One-end algorithm for locating an open conductor failure combined with an earth fault on power lines has been presented. Two cases: an open conductor failure occurring in front of and behind an earth fault, respectively, have been considered. The sample case with the fault data obtained from ATP-EMTP simulation is included and discussed. Streszczenie. Przedstawiono algorytm do lokalizowania przerwy w przewodzie występującej wraz ze zwarciem doziemnym w napowietrznych liniach elektro-energetycznych, z użyciem pomiarów z jednego końca linii. Rozpatrzono dwa przypadki: przerwa odpowiednio przed i za zwarciem doziemnym. Zamieszczono przykład z zastosowaniem sygnałów z symulacji z pomocą programu ATP-EMTP i przeprowadzono dyskusję rezultatów. (Lokalizowanie zwarć złożonych w napowietrznej linii elektro-energetycznej).

Impedance-differential protective algorithm for long power transmission lines

In this paper, the evaluation of the concept of impedance differential scheme for long transmission line protection is presented. Using the voltages and currents of both line ends, the differential impedance is calculated. Capacitive charging current which constitutes the main drawback of current differential protection is eliminated in presented protection method. What is more, the advantage of presented impedance differential protection is ability to determine the fault location. For evaluating the validity of considered protection scheme, computer simulation based on ATP-EMTP was carried out. The obtained results approve the high reliability of the impedance differential protection.
