ted from more editorial input. The primary appeal of this book is likely to be to specialists in the field, who will no doubt find the extensive reference lists useful. These lists are reasonably up-to-date; all of the papers cite references at least through 1986. Nonspecialists who would like to learn about the biochemistry of the respiratory burst would do well to read the introductory articles by Borregaard, Berton et al., and Roos et al. These three papers provide exceptionally lucid discussions of a complex pathway that is critical to our ability to fend off microbial invaders, yet, when unleashed inappropriately, can act to our detriment.
