“Las apariencias engañan”. Conservación, sociedad local y relaciones de poder: El caso de Caño Negro (Costa Rica).

Aunque hoy esta generalmente asumida la necesidad de la implicacion de las poblaciones locales en los procesos de conservacion y desarrollo sostenible, esta participacion esta lejos de materializarse, o en caso contario, presenta sesgos importantes.La investigacion etnografica llevada a cabo en Cano Negro (Costa Rica) aporta evidencias de como la mistificacion de la idea de comunidad, entendida, ingenua o interesadamente, como una entidad social homogenea e igualitaria, al no tener en cuenta las relaciones de poder siempre presentes en cualquier realidad humana, se convierte en un factor clave a la hora de explicar las deficiencias e incluso el fracaso de modelos de conservacion que supuestamente cuentan con la participacion de dichas comunidades. Esta mistificacion no solo no favorece la conservacion, sino que inclusopuede contribuir a la acentuacion dedeterminados procesos de deterioro y degradacion de los ecosistemas y, lo que es peor, actuaren contra de la sostenibilidad bien entendida, al coadyuvaren la generacion y/o profundizacion de las desigualdades existentes en el seno de dichas “comunidades”. Para evitarlo se hace necesario el conocimiento en profundidad de los sistemas de relaciones de poder de las poblaciones locales, para lo que la Antropologia ofrece muchas posibilidades, y la apuesta decidida por la participacion real y efectiva de las poblaciones locales.
